Rez ist ein ziemliches Experiment gewesen, das für den Hersteller ziemlich in die Hose gegangen ist und weder auf der Dreamcast, noch auf der PS2 die Erwartungen erfüllt hat, was dazu führte das die Erstauflage nur in kleiner Zahl hergestellt worden ist, und es auch keine weiteren oder gar Budget Veröffentlichungen gab, was das Spiel relativ selten macht. Die Art der Darstellung und Verbindung von Bild, Ton (am besten mit Subwoofer) und Vibration, alles aufeinander abgestimmt ist zwar für die Videospielwelt einzigartig, bietet aber nüchtern betrachtet nur sehr wenig abwechslung. Man fliegt durch sehr lange und eintönige Levels, bewegt sein Fadenkreuz auf verschiedene Formen und freut sich an den Rausch aus Bildern, Tönen und Rüttelnden Controller. Das Leveldesign baut darauf das man es auswendig lernt und zieht in den späteren Leveln deart stark an das es kaum noch Fair ist, und setzt den Spieler beim versagen in schwächster Form wieder zum Ausgang zurück, was für ziemlichen Frust sorgen kann. Einzig die Bossfights sind was Präsentation und Gameplay angeht etwas interesannter, können aber alleine das Spiel nicht retten. Was bleibt ist ein sehr experimentelles Spiel, das für eine sehr begrenzte Zielgruppe durchaus interesannt ist, aber für die allgemeinheit wenig bietet.
