An excellent book, with Maigret making his first appearance. A wonderful new translation too, keeping the feel of the 1930s but adding a little gritty contemporary feel. Also notable is that it is all there and in place from the start. Only once or twice do you need to take a pause to take everything on board.

I have seen Maigret many times with an assortment of actors playing the main roll over the years. I managed to build a better image of the man for myself and I think the stories fit better for it. This first book of the 75 Maigret novels grabbed my interest from the start and I ordered the second whilst reading it. This copy is in good clean order.
