I don't usually watch a lot of modern, US shows, usually because the writings bad, the characters are smart-asses and unsympathetic, or the subject matter is exploitative or offensive to me. Nonetheless, I found myself colliding with 'Once Upon a Time' on the internet due to its remarkably dedicated fanbase. The premise sounded interesting, the ideas sounded pretty original...Rumpelstiltskin looked awesome as hell. So I checked it out. And, though it's by far not a perfect show, it didn't disappoint. It delivers the laughs, the melodrama and heart-ache, the great characters and character development, the crazy fantasy, and some pretty dark undertones, sometimes. The characters, though, are what make this show exceptionally good. It's refreshing to see such strong female leads in a mainstream show--for once women are treated as people rather than sex-objects or merely as counterparts for the men. Here, the dudes are the counterparts, for the most part. And then Rumpelstiltskin is just Rumpelstiltskin. He's just awesome in every imaginable way possible. Then again, I'm a pretty dedicated Carlyle fan, so I may be a little biased. His acting is brilliant, his costumes are great, the writing is great--despite being a "monster", he's actually the most interesting character on the show, and he's arguably got the most tragic backstory (not to spoil anything). He's ridiculously sympathetic considering he looks like a lizard in disco-gear. And, just as a side note...are there just not a lot of male fans of this show, or what? I'm, like, one of the very few that I know of. Dudes, get it on the ball! This is an awesome show! WATCH IT AND GEEK OUT.Vollständige Rezension lesen
I enjoyed the 1st season & wanted to puchase the set so I could share the stories & excitement with my daughters. They had missed the 1st season. When we went to Disney in Florida, they had advertisements for the show. I just wanted my family to know what I was talking about when we went down, again. The second season has started & it's fun to have "modern" fairy tales to talk about... Mixing newer Disney characters with the well known older story book characters is pure GENIUS!!!
I don't normally go in for fantasy-type shows but this series has cast a spell on me. I everything about it - the acting is superb, it's visually entertaining, and the plots thicken with each episode. A very sophisticated series, charming, creative, clever, and very well done!

we started watching "Once apon a time" during season two and it didn't make a lot of sense. Who is that? why are they doing that? So I bought season one DVDs, and the it's undertandable why season 2 is confusing. This is wonderful series based on all our fairy tales, with a twist. I highly recommend it before watching season 2, or as a stand alone, although I'm sure there's a cliffhanger waiting for us at the end of 22 episodes. Well produced and well acted. Believable characters.
the series focuses on emma swan (jennifer morrison) a young woman trying to reconnect with the son she gave up for adoption years before. in doing so she becomes sheriff of storybrooke the small maine town run by her son's adoptive mother (lana parilla). the more emma immerses herself in town culture the stranger the place seems especially since the boy is convinced that most residents are actually characters from classic fairy tales. this is a great show to pickup and get.
