Let me get my one negative point out of the way now. The receiver is big, as are all the others. Other than that minor issue, this receiver is great. The sound quality is outstanding, as good if not better than many I've heard that cost much more. Great deal on ebay ($419.00) and also good internet deals to be found w/ quick google search. Very flexible connectivity, incl 4 HDMI in and 1 out. HDMI pass through was my final selling point, as I don't want to power up the entire system to watch a quick program, news, check weather, etc. Fairly easy and intuitive on screen menu. Highly recommend this unit. You owe it to yourself to at least take a look and consider this AVR.
I bought a brand new Onkyo TX NR737 7.2 Channel 250 Watt for a lot of money, but I wasn't satisfied with the sound. After less than 2 weeks, while I was using it ,the only thing I can remember it was smocking. Wahouou! ! ! ! .... And I was thinking to buy a used Yamaha received .It works just fine right now.

So far, this receiver has been great to me. The back panel has a good layout for connecting devices and the menu system is really convenient. It also has an auto sound setup (YAO) if im not mistaken that detects the number of speakers you have and adjusts the volume according to the distance from the mic. It automatically sets up for 5.1, 5.2, 6.1, 6.2, 7.1, and 7.2. This receiver puts out great sound and would reccommend to anyone who is looking for a middle of the road receiver. I payed $440.00 on March 3rd, 2010.
I've had an older model of this receiver for many years. Over time the remote got "kid" damage to it. The receiver depends largely on the remote for many personalized functions. I found a replacement for it finally at a reasonable price on ebay and bought it. But because of not having HDMI connections, I just decided to look for a new one. There were many options, but Yamaha was the only way to go. Now I have my old one and my new one. I won't let go of my old one except for what I think it's worth, if at all. Yamaha ROCKS and is awesome for movies. Thanks
I would have nothing to complain about, except the HDMI "out" outlet/port quit working. I used this to connect Cable service, Xbox, Apple TV, etc, and then it just died. It was great. I could use it as the brain of my setup, and it had pre-amp out puts for serious equipment. It was all I needed, so I coughed up the money in hopes of the quality and features. Unfortunately, if failed, so now the question is, "another yamaha?"
