Good all-round short zoom lens for all vintage Canon A series cameras. Saves me carrying three lenses. There are two "better" versions of this lens which are better in low light but this one works well for me.

I bought this lens because I was looking for an entry level to Macro photography. I chose this lens because of the extremely low price. The lens is very compact and light. The build quality is not as good as some of the older Canon lenses but adequate for use. The term Macro is applied to a number of lenses but if you are looking for a lens that will produce 1-1 life-size with the upgraded optics to capture fine detail then this is not the lens for you. I would not buy any lens of this type again. It would be helpful if people could agree what specification the term Macro referred to. If in doubt ask if the lens will reproduce 1-1 unaided, if the answer is no then you should be able to access its capabilities and decide if it is what you are looking for.
More flexibility than with the fixed 50mm lens at the cost of a 1.8 f/stop. A good lens to have in your collection as it is useful in many situations along with being relatively cheap to obtain. Although I still need to test out the macro capabilities of this lens.

I have found this to be an excellent addition to my camera good value and great pictures and very easy to learn how to use to maximum potential
