Reviews
"Auditionis brutally honest, both about Walters and those she's worked with. Readers won't be left wondering what she thinks of anything, or anyone, for that matter. . . . It's a fascinating look at a woman who has lived a fascinating life." Laura L. Hutchison,The Free Lance-Star "[Walters'] heartfelt candor lifts this book above mere titillation. . . . blended with this personal drama is a delightful tale of the golden age of television . . . Through 50-plus chapters, you feel as though you've enjoyed a year of weekly lunches with Walters . . . She regales you with the juicy behind-the-scenes details of the celebrities she's interviewed, mixed in with stories of her own trials and tribulations. In the end, you envy her a little less and admire her more." Kathleen Matthews,Washington Post "…the book is a triumph!" -Caitlin Flanagan,The Atlantic "…the grande dame of TV news has written a blockbuster. . . . Readers will gobble up the excerpts from scores of interviews with world leaders, politicians, celebrities and murderers." Kathleen Daley,New York Sun "an indispensable book along with a surefire monster best seller…intensely readable…She's TV's original monarch and superstar where power, show business and journalism converge. It's Barbara Walters' world, and the rest of us just live in it. [Her] mammoth memoir, doesn't just touch chords, it's a 600-plus page oratorio." Janet Maslin,The New York Times "an unusually ambitious and successful book. …suffused with an emotional intensity…it belongs to a part of American culture that Walters helped invent." Nicholas Lemann,The New Yorker "She doesn't shy from the tough stuff… Nor does Walters, an entertainer as much as a ground-breaking journalist, skimp on the fun bits." • AUDITION-WANABE WHO MADE IT, OR DID SHE?

This book is simply my opinion since I heard about her from my parents then went on to see and watch her on interviews and 20/20. Only a few pages in the book and Walters does not want to reveal her age as she says, don't ask, yet her sister Jackie is 3-4 years older so go figure, she has to be 70, if not older. I oftened wondered why she insisted on special lighting for her television appearances, only to be angled from the left side, now I know. I have never known anyone so age conscience, and find it sad she can not admit to her real age and her very obvious cosmetic surgeries. Not only does she have a hangup about her age and plastic surgery, I feel Ms. Walters has a lot of hidden guilt regarding her mentally challenged sister and this still has yet to be resolved, which is quite ...

  • Audition by Barbara Walters

I had seen Barbara promoting her book and knowing what a good writer she was, decided to purchase it. What I wasn't expecting was how in depth it was. It is a big book, one that I emersed myself in and totally enjoyed. Along the way were helpful hints for my own life. I still have her original book, How to Talk To Anyone. A big deal was made about her affair with the senator. That section was a drop in the bucket when reading the entire book. It was hyped to sell books. I will not be selling or giving this one away. It is staying on my shelf. Since Barbara isn't that much older than myself I was able to relate to the people she talks about in her book. All I know is Barbara worked really, really hard, as she will share with you in the book, so deserves a life of whatever she ...

  • Audition by Barbara Walters

I thoroughly enjoy reading this book, and getting to know Barbara Walters more. Just like everyone else she has had struggles along the way. I feel she has pioneered her way for women in the journalism field. She has worked hard to where she is at, and I commend her for that. Kuddos to Barbara! I decided I wanted to read this book, but didn't want to pay the high price of it at a book store. So E-bay was the way to go about getting it. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase.

  • Not an eye catching title!

I bought the book because it was mentioned on a television show I watched. I am not a big fan of Barbara Walters but found the book well written and entertaining. Am definitely not sorry I bought the book. Read it on vacation at the beach and it kept my attention through most parts. Those I found not so interesting, I just skipped. Would I recommend it to someone...would not actively do that but if asked would say I found it entertaining.

  • A most entertaining and wonderful read. I recommend this to anyone.

I've read most of this book and Audition is as great as I thought it would be. I loved finding out about the personality traits and thoughts of all entertainers and knew Barbara Walters would be a very fascinating, multi-faceted person. I certainly have not been disapointed. The photos are just charming and I actually remember watching many of the shows she recorded with the other celebrities. WONDERFUL!!...
