The chapter problems are excellent and challenge students at many levels. Chapter summaries are well written. This has always been a general strength of the text. I was happy to see the inclusion of the ?Focus On? topics as supplements to the chapter's material to excite the students about other topics in organic chemistry related to the chapter material. I think these are quite informative for the students., The material has a far greater biological focus, which is done successfully. This is a big plus in my mind. . . . the chemistry is presented with a high degree of accuracy. There are certainly no major problems., We have been using McMurry’s text for the past several years here at UA, and I am, therefore, quite familiar with it.     International vs US Texts

    I kbow many people are very wary when they see the description of "International version" of textbooks. I just went out on a limb and bought my first one and can tell u i am more than satisfied. The most obvious difference is that the book is soft cover. I actually like that because its a lot lighter than hardcover versions. If u worry about the durability, buy a sheet of clear contact paper and cover the book as soon as u get it and it will last forever. I think that there's a legal reason why they tell u that the quality of the paper is lower, but really its not that different. THEY R NOT PRINTED ON NEWSPAPER as i feared before ordering it. The small downside is that the paper is thinner, so if you look at any white unprinted section of a page, you can see a ghost of the text printed on ...

    Excellent deal and very green (no paper wasted) Thanks!

    This is by far the best deal for all you college kids... avoid the bookstores sky high prices and buy e-books. This is especially great for those of you concerned about the environment since no paper was used to make this copy. If you are concerned about only having the e-book for a semester or an academic year this copy provided by user stevenkidz is a pdf file (including the text book and answer book) for unlimited use. Just make sure to copy it to a cd or flash disk in case of a hard drive crash or virus. Given that this is an e-book it is a little hard to view images and read everything that would be on a single page but it is easy to scroll through and see the images as necessary.

    A pretty nice textbook overall

    THe book that I have is the International edition (soft cover). It is a bit smaller than the US Edition, making it an odd shape. However, the content is very good. It is very thorough, and has questions tied into the reading to immediately reinforce the concepts. I found it very helpful so far.

    O. Chem is cool

    So far, I'm very pleased with this book. I read the 4th edition back when I took Organic Chemistry the first time (over ten years ago), and this edition has much improvements. McMurry has definately improved in explaining the material and advances have been made in the subject area in that time, which are accounted for. He does a good job of explaining the important points; points that were overlooked in the fourth edition. One cool thing the fourth edition had that this one doesn't (at least not the international paperback), was these 3D glasses things that could be mounted on the pages to look at special 3D pictures. Oh well, they seem kinda pointless anyway, especially in this digital age. Great Price too (international paperback).

    Misleading information: AN INDIAN VERSION W/O COLOR

    I give a rating of below average, because even though the product was in a fair condition, the content of the book contradicted to the description. The description of the book was not accurately written, for it had either deliberately or unintentionally misleading information and mised an important factor to the book: an INDIAN version WITH NO COLOR. It was necessary to inform buyers that the indian version is CLEARLY different from the international version. IT has no color and not all the problems are present in the book. As it is an organic chemistry book, being able to identify the color of molecules is critial in understanding the concept. If i had known that the book did not provide any color or additional problems, I wouldn't have purchased the item.
