Minolta 600mm f4.0 AF APO lens Several comments come to mind: 600mm f4.0 lenses are few. The Nikon and Canon similar lenses typically sell for more than $9000 and $12000 respectively........... This Mino lens is reported to have excellent IQ. The one I purchased didn’t work, so I cannot confirm. I have read that the “new glass” of the Nikon and Canon lenses produces slightly (slightly+) better images. For $10-12k, they should........... The non-G version of this Mino lens was made prior to 1988. The G version of this lens was made from 1988 to something like the mid ‘90s. The lens is heavy greater than 12 pounds, but really, with that much glass, one should expect that. This isn’t a negative. This is not a “beginner” lens.............................................. Some less favorable comments: Non-G lenses will be more than 25 years old. Nothing wrong with being more than 25 years old. ........... I’ve read that Mino stopped supplying parts for these lenses more than 18 years ago. The lens obviously has many moving parts inside. These could wear and make the lens unstable/unusable. And remember, Sony hasn't (yet) picked up manufacture of this lens. ........... Lenses can be banged or dropped. No repair parts available. These lenses, as all AF lenses, have a memory chip inside. It could simply die, receive a static shock, become corroded. In any case, if the chip is bad, the lens will NOT couple to a Sony Alpha camera. You will not have auto focus control (use manual focus) and you will not have aperture control. OOPS, Better have a lot of light to use this lens at a fixed f22. ............. Finally, how was this lens stored for the past 25 years? Wet, dry, dusty, moved around, with/without case... .............. My summary is: If you are considering purchasing one of these, MAKE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN THE PROSPECTIVE LENS COUPLES TO YOUR CAMERA. Consider the possibility that it could stop functioning at any moment (any lens can); however, it may be impossible to get this one repaired. Therefore, be prepared to own an absolutely beautiful museum piece, representing the pinnacle of lens development ca. 1988. Also remember, if it is DOA, shipping it back is YOUR COST, as e-bay does not cover return shipping.Vollständige Rezension lesen
All of the things you’ve heard and read about this lens are true. Sharp, built to last, fast focusing. I love everything about it, aside from the size and weight. This thing is a true behemoth that requires an expensive tripod setup that is designed to support such a lens.

I have owned this lens for about 2.5 years and it has performed amazingly. Compared to the overpriced Sony 500mm F4 now available, this lens really is good value. I have used this lens on multiple wildlife trips including Uganda and Rwanda and I have captured excellent shots. Even with a 1.4x teleconverter, the images are still excellent. I personally have tried the 2x converter but suggest staying with the 1.4 and cropping in post-production as required. The lens build is solid and they really do stand the test of time.

I spent $3800 for a near mint copy of this lens as compared to $10,000 for the Sony 500mm. I shoot wildlife with it and my images are very sharp. Highly recommend.

The package is well wrapped. There are sufficient protective materials inside the box. Condition of lens is very new, the same as description and pictures posted. Tested the lens just yesterday and the images are very sharp. Focusing speed is fast with Sony A77II. I am satisfied with this purchase.
