This radio came out in 1998, but it's still "state of the art." If you're not familiar with all the bells and whistles that come on these radios - settings for DSP, mode, antenna 1 vs. antenna 2, antenna tuner, beacons, etc. - it will take you a day or two to get up to speed. But once you do, and once you have a good antenna plugged in, you're in business. All you have to do is wait for the band(s) to be open - something you have no control over - and make sure you stay within your "privileged" bandwidths.

My KENWOOD TS-570D Story I am a HAM Radio Operator and I needed a transmiter. I enjoy working the HF Bands which covers 160 to 10 Meters. I have had Kenwood products in the past. So I wanted to stay with that product line. This radio covers all of the bands I wanted to use. It was in great shape and works like a champ. My only regret is that it does not cover 6 meters. I have worked into South Africa, Central America, Japan, England, South America, and all 50 States, running 100 watts of power. See you on the bands one day, KG7DUY in Idaho.
The 570 transmitter output is up to factory specs. but I would like to see a little more sensitivity from the receiver. The small footprint and light weight would make it a good mobile set.
