Product Information

A nuclear holocaust has turned Washington, DC, into a radioactive wasteland. Mutant creatures freely roam the land while a select few survivors live safely within underground shelters engineered by the Vault-Tec Corporation. Your uneventful life inside the vault takes a dramatic turn when your father mysteriously disappears. Looking for answers, you begin a journey into the great unknown -- a test of survival in an inhospitable environment. Based on the acclaimed post-apocalyptic role-playing series from former publisher Interplay, Fallout 3 features a wide-open world viewed from a choice of first- or third-person perspectives.

Developed by the team behind the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and featuring the same graphics engine, Fallout 3 has you embarking on an assortment of quests while exploring, scavenging, and battling for your continued existence. Scrap-metal cities and rusted shantytowns are sources of human contact, but in between them lurk a number of hostile threats. The real-time combat is modeled after shooting games, albeit with the option to pause time for more precise shots using V.A.T.S. (the Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System). V.A.T.S. lets you pinpoint vulnerability areas with the help of percentage markers displayed on each body part. The higher the percentage, the likelier you are to hit the highlighted area.

Aiming at a particular body part can cripple it, affecting the enemy's ability to use an arm or leg in combat, while critical hits result in graphic displays of dismemberment. Defeating enemies earns you experience points to enhance your character's stats and acquire abilities called "perks," or specific talents in a chosen area of expertise. Fallout 3 also features some camaraderie in the form of a loyal canine named Dogmeat and a non-player character of your choosing. A licensed soundtrack with songs from the '40s and '50s helps set the mood, offering such hits as "Way Back Home," "Anything Goes," "Butcher Pete," and "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire."

  • Fallout 3 (Playstation 3)

Fallout 3 is perhaps one of the best rpg games out there on PS3. It's gameplay style is similar to Elder Scrolls: OBlivion, with its open-world gameplay, its many quests, and its interesting quest plots. Fallout 3 exhibits a different leveling system compared to Oblivion. Levels are earned by gaining experience points, which can be obtained through completing quests, killing enemies, picking locks, hacking computer terminals, etc, as opposed to the leveling in Oblivion that is driven by leveling up major skills. Characters in Fallout 3 are determined by the distribution of S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats. S = Strength P = Perception E = Endurance C = Charisma I = Intelligence A = Agility L = Luck Each of these stats governs a set of skills, ranging from Lockpicking, Computer Hacking, Medicine, Energy ...

  • Great- but, grab the Game of the Year Edition if you can

This is probably the best bang for your buck as far as modern Fallout games go. However, you will be missing a ton of added content if you don't go for the game of the ear or complete editions of the game- things that make the game much friendlier for new players, and allow for a better experience in a wasteland world that's very scarce on resources. That makes this normal version of the game significantly more challeging to play.

  • Fallout 3 very different than most shooters

I like the games RPG atmosphere and the fact that you can do anything you want (to a degree)when compared to first person shooters. VATS shooting mode is unique and slows things down so you can target individual parts of the victim with incredible cinematics that are both graphic and dramatic, fun compared to other shoot-em-ups but honestly not as satisfying as say COD:MW2. I found targeting erratic in regular shooting mode with a "too" small pipper. I like the kooky post nuclear war world and the rummaging aspect of things. I like the ability to gather some things without weight detriment. I like odd stuff that happens seemingly for no reason. I don't like raiders (so far) apparently you can't reason with them although some cower and run away. I like the pip-boy device and radio, gives it ...

  • Good Game...Few Issues

I really enjoy playing this. I played it on the xbox 360 and I think they are about the same. I had a few issues while playing this though. It would make my TV reset for no reason. I am unsure if it is the game or the TV but it only happens while playing this game. The openess of this game is great. You start out and once you grow up you can go and pretty much kill anybody and do anything you want. You are free to go wherever you want. There are a few issues I have though. 1. Leveling up does not make it easier to kill enemies, they level up with you which means if you know what you are doing you can go anywhere and kill anything. 2. The TV thing but like I said I am unable to recreate this in any other game so I am not holding it against this game. I really do enjoy playing this ...

  • Fallout 3 sets a new bar of excellence

Graphics: Breathtaking 9/10 Sound: Great – 8.5/10 Gameplay: Spectacular – 9.5/10 Replay Value – High (for a single player only game) 9/10 Overall – Near Perfect 9.5/10 Please note: I have never played any prior Fallout Titles, and this is from a n00b prospective. Graphics: Breathtaking 9/10 The graphics are make you look twice – When you first exit the vault and see the landscape, you think to yourself “what next”? The graphic interface, use of PiP Boy and the movements really show that Bethesda took the time and care to make this well worth your hard earned money. Sound: Great – 8.5/10 The sounds, music, effects, and voices take you immediately into the game. The time specific music, the radio channels, and the voice acting are all A+. The reason for the slightly lower mark is the ...
