Product Information

Not your typical boring diet book, this is a tart-tongued, no-holds-barred wakeup call to all women who want to be thin. With such blunt advice as, "Soda is liquid Satan" and "You are a total moron if you think the Atkins Diet will make you thin," it's a rallying cry for all savvy women to start eating healthy and looking radiant. Unlike standard diet books, it actually makes the reader laugh out loud with its truthful, smart-mouthed revelations. Behind all the attitude, however, there's solid guidance. Skinny Bitch espouses a healthful lifestyle that promotes whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, and encourages women to get excited about feeling "clean and pure and energized."

Reviews
Hartford Courant "...incredibly informative and entertaining... Co-authors Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin provide tough-love talk mixed with facts and common sense... Freedman and Bamouin speak to the reader like a friend who isn't afraid to tell you what's on her mind. They back up their arguments by citing study after study and take the technical talk out of the discussion so as to make a more easily digested point. This is the first "diet" book I've ever read that has made me laugh out loud numerous times. That being said, since no one warned me, I'll let you in on a secret - the book will gross you out. In the same vein as Fast Food Nation , there are graphic descriptions of factory farming and unsanitary dairy farm practices. It was easy for me to put down Fast Food Nation but this book is so funny, I had to keep going. Almost immediately, I was one of the transformed. In fact, as soon as I got halfway through Chapter 4, "The Dead, Rotting Decomposing Flesh Diet", I had to call and change my dinner plans because I decided to go vegan on the spot. West VA University's The Daily Athenaeum , 6/8/10 "a cynical, foul-mouthed read with only good intentions that could get you into your best bikini shape for this pool season...The book's conversational tone makes for an interesting and entertaining read - not simply just dos and don'ts of dieting and exercise like most weight-loss plan guides.", Hartford Courant "…incredibly informative and entertaining… Co-authors Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin provide tough-love talk mixed with facts and common sense... • The S-word doesn't stand for Squash, ladies!

I read the reviews before I purchased this book and thought I knew what I was getting into.Having read a number of books about diet and nutrition, my interest was piqued after I had seen the authors justifying the "salty" tone of their book on the Today Show a while back and had always been curious...I mean, who can resist something salty? Plus, I felt I was already kind of a bitch- why not go the whole way and be a skinny bitch? Anyway, being known to swear like a sailor myself, I bought the book thinking it couldn't be nearly as offensive as the old church ladies said! Basically, I have determined that these women figured if they dropped the F-bomb a few times while talking about vegtables, maybe said vegetables would become more interesting and people would eat them? There's broccoli ...

  • A lifestyle, not a diet

Quick read. Very opinionated book, uses a lot of crass language, not for the sensitive type. These women give it to you straight and appear to have done their research (over 300 sources for this over 100 page read). This is definitely a book for people serious about changing their lifestyle and eating habits, a pro-vegan outlook. An open-mind is necessary when reading this book. Don't be afraid of change or doing something to improve your life. Recommended food is organic, which yes - costs more up front, but the money saved on doctors, hospitals, other medical bills over the course of your life should be considered, and in the end will save you money. If you are looking for something other than they regular quick-fix diet plans - read this book. I highly recommend it!

  • Skinny Bitch "lifestyle"

What I liked- These women are very straightforward when it comes to making their point. I LOVE that. They did not "sugar coat" anything- no pun intended! They also blow the whistle on our government agencies that are supposed to protect us while they are really just lining their own pockets without regard to our health. What I didn't like- I do not agree with a total vegan diet. They are 100% against all animal products. I believe if you are smart about what types and sources of animal products you choose, you can still be a "skinny bitch." I bought the book because I heard it was a good book. I also and tired of being an overweight woman and needed a little bit of a pep talk to get me inspired to do something about the food I eat. I would recommend this book to anyone who is ready for ...

  • Inspirational, motivational, but really heavy on GO VEG

I find this book quite inspirational as a diet motivator - their straightforward style and "bossy girlfriend" tone really hit home. I'll come to this again and again when diligence falters. But be warned - this book hits the "GO VEGETARIAN" pretty darned hard. However, as grossed out as I am at the meat industry, chemical additives, etc. I just can't go totally vegetarian due to health issues. I am more and more careful about additives, chemicals, have cut WAY down on soda (from all day every day to just one or so a week) so my overall intake has been quite swayed. Can't wait to get the cookbook by them!

  • Do you like being patronized?

Than this is the book for you. Pretend Rush Limbaugh mated with PETA (yes, the whole organization) - these two could be their pretentious, overbearing daughters, with an extra heaping spoonful of bully added to their personalities, as well. They write as if their readers are complete morons. I can appreciate their straight talk about the food that we eat, and I found some of it informative and even, at times, quite funny. However, I don't appreciate reading that I need to get my "cankles" to a health food store. Their assumption of their reader (fat, slob, pig, etc) is not particularly likely to help those that they are presumably trying to help. As everyone past elementary school knows, bullying is not a very effective way to promote change. At any rate, it's easy to see that they are ...
