Product Information

For the past fifty years Beer and Johnston have been the uncontested leaders in the teaching of undergraduate engineering mechanics. Over the years their textbooks have introduced significant theoretical and pedagogical innovations in statics, dynamics, and mechanics of materials education. At the same time, their careful presentation of content, unmatched levels of accuracy, and attention to detail have made their texts the standard for excellence. The new Eighth Edition of Vector Mechanics for Engineers: Dynamics marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Beer/Johnston series. Continuing in the spirit of its successful previous editions, the Eighth Edition provides conceptually accurate and thorough coverage together with a significant addition of new problems, including biomechanics problems, and the most extensive media resources available.

  • Vector Mechanics for engineers

A very boring read, but it is an engineering text book. Mostly bought the textbook for the problems I have to do for class. The book is not very conducive to learning. The book spends a lot of time introducing and deriving formulas. In my opinion a textbook should spend a lot more time discussing approaches to problems. Especially for difficult subjects such as engineering in which the problems are very complex and each problem has a unique "trick" to solve. The book pretty much has long winded introductions to formulas which are discussed anyway in classroom lectures. Then, the book just expects the student to solve all the problems by looking at one or two example problems. The text covers approaches to problems really quickly in two pages for every section however these discussed ...

  • Vector Mechanics for Engineers: Dynamics

I bought this book for a Dynamics class I had to take. It seems to be pretty easy to understand with very good examples. These authors have been around a long time and they know how to make a good text book. I haven't had much experience with other texts, but I assume that this is one of the better choices out there.

  • Makes Learning Harder Than It Needs to Be

This is the second book by Beer, Johnston, and Clausen that I have had to buy for a class (the other was Statics), and I would not use them again to learn these subjects. I have seen Statics and Dynamics books by other authors, and they do not make it nearly as difficult as these guys do. The general ideas that are presented in each lesson are actually pretty simple. In this book, however, they take several pages to explain the concepts in the most roundabout way possible, throwing in lots of random mathematical proofs and derivations that just make things more confusing. To add to this, they give little instruction on how to actually approach Dynamics problems. These problems are all about taking the right steps in the right order. It's hard, but it could be made much easier with ...

  • Engineering student Life line

This solutiuons manual is great for helping understand problems presented in Vector Mechanics for Engineers:Statics and Dynamics. Since it is not printed, you can easily put the files on a flash drive. The problems and solutions are in separate forlders by chapters. The files are arranged as each problem is an indiv. file and eash solutuion is indiv. as well. The downfall to this is that it takes a little extra time to print multiple soultions.

  • good, but could be better.

I bought this book for a Dynamics Engineering Course. The book leaves room for improvement. The format is good with examples at the end of each section before problems, but there needs to be more examples and better examples. Some of the examples are useless to solving problems. The book does a good job presenting challenging work in applying dynamics concepts. I would say for the price, the book isn't worth it. An older version with the exact same conceptial information can be purchased for less.
