A slightly better processor that is almost the top Core2 Duo Processor
The Intel Core2 Duo E8500 processor is the 2nd highest of it's kind within the Core2 Duo (Dual Core) family , where the only difference between it and the E8600 model , is that the E8600 has a base core clock speed of 3.33ghz vs 3.16ghz. It is an improvement type processor that brings your computer more transistors within it's smaller 45nm size architecture , which means more ability to do more simultaneously - as opposed to other Core2 Duo processers that are made on a 65nm architecture (IE : Intel Core2 Duo E6850 @ 65nm size). More transistors means more computing ability , while the E8500 processor also uses less power because it runs at a lower voltage. All of these differences are packed into the same sized framework or casing which is used only to house the processor and allow it ... For general processing , browsing text on the web or offline , the E8500 processer is excellent and when video is included , it is very capable and responsive to 2015 requirements as long as your computer also meets todays graphics card specifications to view HD videos etc. Another good part about upgrading to the E8500 processor is that it has a larger cache than other 3.0ghz processors (6mb not 4mb) , which allows the processor to have more memory , 50% more. On the smaller 45nm die , there is smaller memory , which can have more memory packed into it than larger interior processor memory that is larger. This too helps data fed into or through the processor because the "prefetch" of information or data is larger , meaning it is ready to do more when it does actually process data. It holds 50% more "prefetched" information , and thereby is more ready to allow that data to be released into text/video and audio. If you have a computer that is running a 3.0ghz speed processor , speed is not the only consideration when choosing any processor , as the memory of the processor (IE : 2mb/4mb/6mb & 8mb caches) are definately different and perform differently when the processor is tasked with more information to process through it. And then there is also the FSB speed of the processor , which is also a factor (IE: 800mhz Front Side Bus / 1024mhz Front Side Bus & 1333mhz Front Side Bus) , all of which contribute to the processing speed. While the Intel Core2 Duo E8500 runs at 1333mhz speed. If you are a gamer , it is well worth upgrading from lesser models and it runs slightly cooler because of it's lower power requirements. At the end of the day , it pays for itself and some. I would recommend this processor as an upgrade to anyone.

Get this bargin buy cpu its prob one of the best buy cpu,s out there.
I have had a few of these cpu,s I would always go for this model ie E8500 as it is the 3.16 Ghz model, only one above E8600 yes its a good chip, but there is no point going all out just to say i have one, if you don,t do a lot gaming so i went for the E8500, its a grea cpu and great L2 cache a big wopping 6 MB in computer terms thats a lot for a general user, i used IC 7 compound grease which is daimond based and is a great conductor of heat than copper, you can get it on ebay also, over time after install the thermal temp has dropped consistently. The cpu always rund cool, and my HDD lights or LED is almost non function ie less hdd access due to massive cache and bigger ram upgrades, this cpu does a fantastic job for a home user, everything now is very very fast, responsiveness is good to ... And for what they cost you are not going to get better unless you build this cpu your self. If you are thinking of getting one, then do it. Don,t go back and fourth in your mind, get on with the job and get one, they are one of the bargin buys in pc,s right now, there is only 1 model above this one and then you jump to Quad core, but again if you don,t do pc gaming there is no point in getting a quad core or if you are graphics designer ect or photo pro editor or some thing along those lines and you want to know you have that extra bang for you buck then go for it. But this model will do just as good job, and work with ease on all winodws software. I run and work with winows 7 and 8 and business as that is my employment and i can tell you now they are a good buy cpu, and will run all day very happy in your system, remember folks you need a socket 775 motherboard that supports 800 / 1046 / or 1333 fsb speeds with at least DDr2 ram installed some will run or almost run a ddr3 ram, in some situations you may have to upgrade your bios get his right as in some situations its non reversable, so do your home work study and work out what you want and go for it. spend time looking up motherboard manuals or download a freeware motherboard identifier like Cpu Z or anther that is used is cpu id it will tell you all you need to know about your current hardware set up and your motherboard manufac ect, go looking for it and chased down your motherboard specs first, as you can damage your motherboard if upgrade in reverse or cause unwanted irractic behaviour. Also go this site and download the free version i havet the paid and its totally excellent software many many many tweaks and fixes, seriously its prob the best out there go to IO Advanced System care and download it. Anyway this cpu i highly reccomend for uprade or little bit more stability in your system then this is a good option, find out more at cpu world online for more specs and pro reviews.

E8500 Core 2 Duo Processor
I was looking to do an up grade from my old system which was a 3.0 Pentium 4 which has served my needs for 5 years and did not want to spend a pile of money so I got on ebay and found this new e8500 and saved about 60 bucks from regular retail which also came with cpu fan and thermal grease and found my memory on ebay and saved 80 bucks or better on 4gb of DDR2. This went with the new gigabyte mobo and the rest of the parts to make one fast and powerful home system for a fraction of what it would to have bought one off the self at some retail store. Did I mention a far superior system as well. God I love the internet. Everything I expected
Works perfectly. One hunderd percent as advertised and adds ~50% performance improvement in my specific application. It was a bargain at that price, and everything I was looking for (at a bargain price.) I have had many hours of usage and it has been flawless so far.

A Classic Core2 Duo. Great upgrade for $7. The E8600 goes for about $17 now and it is only .17GHz faster (170MHz) You probably could not tell the difference. This E8500 also overclocks like a beast. Upgraded an Optiplex 760 from an E7400 and it is pretty fast. Can't go wrong for $7 Great value!
