Recdntly began collecting JRPGS. This is a must have for any fan. Because it is rare it is difficult to find for a readonable price. However, if you're a collector, like me you can't pass on having a clean version, complete with manual. The story and writing are excellent. Yes, the voice acting can be cringy at times, but I think that's part of the charm. Gameplay is the most import aspect of any good rpg, and VP has a very engaging and entertaining battle system. I would put this game in my personal top 5 JRPGs of all time.

So, maybe this is not a game that tons of people know of; one should expect that if it was good, everyone would know about this game (just like all the Final Fantasies or Zelda series for RPGs). Anyway, the things that make this one a unique gamer experience are mixed in a great balance, for example, the deep and complex history (and behavior) of almost all the characters, they don't just pop out of nowhere, they have a reason to be the way they are. The gameplay it`s also challenging enough to make you play 50+ hours and then re-play it again in a harder level. But above all, I would say my favorite traits are the art used and the dubbing. You can almost swear you are in the nordic mythology era when you watch those surroundings and hear the language (yes, hear them!) used in the dialogues for every character. Of course, VP also has its cons: the storyline can be lenghty sometimes, very hard and confusing dungeons, tough boss fights, constant need for grinding, oh! and your best weapons can (and will) break XD. Above all, this is a game I would recommend for everyone who loves RPG or not, believe me when I say you won`t be disappointed with this jewel.Vollständige Rezension lesen
This was a pretty good game. The 2d graphocs are cool and the music is really bumpin. Sadly the mechanics are very complicated and there arent very good tutorials or help from the manual. So after I screwed up and restarted I had to watch a few videos online to understand the basics. Afterwards I was able to do things much better. I would recommend reading a guide because this game defies some expectations. For example Easy mode is actually the hardest because you are restricted from making the best items in that mode. You wouldn't know this at first glance.

Squaresoft and Enix did some absolutely amazing games back in the 2000s. For Enix this was their crown jewel. I played this game completely randomly as a kid as rental from a video store and I absolutely loved every second of it. Every time we'd go there I'd hope to get this for rent as well as Star Ocean 2 both of which only had 1 copy for rent. And Super Smash Bros. which had like 8-10 copies but was always sold out. Its been 12 years and i finally get this damn game here from ebay. First off the music is done by Motoi Sakuraba. If you know that name then you know how absolutely epic his music is. Words cannot describe how good his pieces are. They are definitely best for RPG settings. The game itself doesn't have a really big plot to it. You play as Lenneth, a valkyrie who picks up dead people be they male or woman and training them up to send to valhalla. Like how a parent raises their child to one day kick out to the real world. That's you. The parent keep some though since, well you'll have to lol. All the characters die. Some more fantastic than others some more gruesome some just flat out die. Everytime you do a spiritual concentration you'll be wondering "Man who dies now?" or "Is there a dungeon I have to go to?" Battles are where its all at though, after getting your characters decked out and awesome battles are carried out by orders and timing. Do you simply send everyone out to wail on the enemy until they faint? Or do you start with the spellcaster to knock them up with magic, use the archers to shoot at them in the air then the melee characters to charge em while they are down? Once you get a feel for some characters you'll have to make up battle plans, pressing buttons randomly could waste attacks and make you miss. There is no money in the game. All items you get you make. You have this MP called Materialization Points. ...Its just that you Materialize all your crap. lol. You get MP through either story events or just turning items into MP some items sole purpose is to turn into MP. You use this MP to make your standard RPG things: healing items, weapons, armor, everything. Cause of this. you'll always have a TON of items but its alright. don't ever feel overwhelmed cause you're supposed to have a ton of things. if you don't need it now convert it to MP or just hold it for when you get a new character and give it to them. I agree there is a lot of hype for this old game but to be fair, it deserves it. How many out there can honestly say that Megaman X is a BAD game? Or that FF7 was? The game is good. great even and if you can get it you should definitely play it. I also agree that if you have a PSP then get that one instead cause its the same game but with more content even. But I've no PSP so that's 86 bucks for this game I had to spend haha. Which is oddly comparable for todays games with retail prices of 49.99 or 59.99 but most games today suck so whatever. haha. Joking aside. If you want a great old school RPG with sweet battle system and customization. Well here's a game for you! ....Along with anything Disgaea related.Vollständige Rezension lesen
Hello there I enjoy playing this game alot! It is alot like Final Fantasy but its expoloration is entirely different. The game is divided into 8 chapters where you have to do a specific task given to you by the Goddess Freya. Do well in your task and you get material points as well as artifacts. Material points- Help you create unbreakable weapons, armor, and accessories Artifacts- Are rare items given by the gods, found after defeating bosses, or occassionally found in chests in the Cave of Oblivion. Cave of Oblivion is fun but very challenging at low levels- Its best to run passed the monsters and get out- Tou will see what I mean if you try to take on Chapter 8 monsters when you are only in Chapter 1. Dungeons and Towns- Each require you to give up periods of time. Once periods of time run out the next chapter begins- So you need to manage your time wisely and not just go in and out of dungeons leveling. You should only do that after completeling Freyas request. Freya asks for souls to battle against the Vanir. A warring race opposed to the gods. Some chapters she may ask for a warrior and others a sorcerer etc with specific abilitues- You want to meet these demands so you can get the most material points possible- And you want to please the gods and not anger them. By not following Freyas instructions you risk material points and evaluation points. By sending the gods a warrior that fits their needs they will reward you. Sadly you lose that warrior to the gods- The upside you get the characters back at the end of the game- So you are able to play them again. Odins Chests- Has some of the most exclusive items in the game- Called artifacts. Some artifacts are very valuable and others are not useful at all. You lose Evaluation Points by keeping these forbidden chests. Sometimes its worth making the gods mad :) I recomed saving before the bosses then defaet them and analyze what items you should keep, and what items should be given back to Odin. Many items give you a great amount of material points if you convert them to material points. One example of a great item- Is a maic mirror that reflects magic spells back 50% of its time back on the spellcaster. If you give it back to Odin its gone for good :( Let me break it down for you +1 Evaluation point for every Artifact from Odin you give back -5 Evaluation points for every Artifact from Odin you keep I do not recomend keeping all the items- Unless you want the C ending Where the goddess Freya becomes angry and its game over for you. I do recomend keeping some of them though- For use in battle, or to convert to material points. There are 3 endings- These all depend on your choices in the game. Characters- A great range of characters- If you are a fan of fighters- There will be enough for a whole party of them. Sorcerers- Same thing All can be customized with abilities to fir your needs. There is a walkthrough on skill points on the game that explains it. Battles- You can dodge enemies by jumping over them, or slash them with your sword and choose to fight them- This will engage you into a battle like the Final Fantasy series. I suggest only running when you cant handle a foe. ;eveling- You need to level up as much as possible per chapter- Because every time you leave and renter a dungeon you lose time periods- This in turn puts you closer to the next chapter. Only dislike- Periods of time I give it 9.5 out of 10!Vollständige Rezension lesen
