THE ESSENTIAL CAKE DECORATING GUIDE (2003)
I have never written a review of a book I have purchased before, but I feel so strongly about this book that I want other people to be aware of it. If only all baking/cookbooks were written this way. Let me start by saying, this is an EXCELLENT cake decorating book! The book leads you through "Cake Basics" i.e., cake recipes, icing recipes, marzipan, royal icing, covering cake boards, tiers and layers. There are chapters on working with 'Sugarpaste,' working with 'Royal Icing,' 'Sugar Flowers,' 'Modelling' basic figures, characters, animals, accessories and backgrounds. There are chapters on 'Gateaux' (the chocolate decorations are 'to die for' if you like chocolate), Children's cakes, Christmas cakes, Wedding cakes, and Celebration cakes. The instructions are detailed and complete. It's a fantastic step-by-step guide to cake decorating that will earn you a great reputation as a baker. I have many cake decorating books but this book is, without a doubt, the best one I have. If you can only afford to buy one cake decorating book, buy this one! You won't be sorry.

Exactly as the title says -Essential
As soon as i got this book i was amazed at all the information it had on cake decorating. The book has great step by step instructions with pictures to help you along. Contains information also on working with gumpaste, royal icing, sugar flowers, modeling figures, and gateaux. Many how to and complete pictures of cakes. How to cakes for many occasions and so much more. I was glad to see it also included templates in the chapters and at the end of the book. This is really a must have book. Ask questions first.
Great book....but BEWARE, you may wind up buying the same book twice like I did.....ask before buying. The title and content is the same but the front cover of book may not be what you get. I liked the first one I won so I ordered another one with the same title. It had a different picture so I thought it was another version.....but inside it was just like the other. Ask questions first!

I LOVE THIS BOOK!
As a hobby baker and cake decorator I have been collecting books, not only looking for new techniques, but because I love looking at the beautiful cakes. This book is loaded with beautiful photos and tons of recipes and ideas! So glad I found it.
