Absorbing Period Drama
This series is very entertaining. It's set in the 1920's when women were searching for new roles in the world, none more so than the Elliot sisters. Both were left in straitened circumstances upon the death of their father. They pool their meager resources and break into the fashion world. This well acted period piece covers so many areas. Two would be PTSD, then known as shell shock by some of the male cast who fought the war and, women's independence to manage their own lives without male dominance.This series is very entertaining. First of all, I love English period mini-series. They have warmth, humor and excellent story lines. The English certainly know how to make a mini-series that makes you feel like you are part of the story line. The acting and the characters are superb. Other than Pride and Prejudice, the A&E version, this is my favorite video of all time. This is the story of two sisters whose father dies and leaves them penniless, and how they overcome their lack of education and money to establish one of the greatest fashion houses in London. It takes you through the struggles to establish the house, the men and friends in their lives, and their eventual happiness. I decided to buy this particular mini-series because I just love to watch it. I will be watching and re-watching this mini-series for ... First of all, I love English period mini-series. The House Of Eliott - Unrivalled BBC Mini-Series Drama!
This is a wonderfully written and brilliant screenplay: terrific art direction, beautiful fashion styles & designs,sumptuous feminine clothes, fantastic set pieces & stage designs, tremendous ensemble caste of talented thespians, mixed with high dramatics and the occasional socio-political class war statements - all tucked nicely within a story about two upper class but penniless ambitious and career-minded post-feminist sisters who produced a world-class fashion house struggling against oppressive misogynistic social, sexual, economic and financial prejudicial male-dominated environments of the 1920s. The vibrancy, the sheer energy and vitality of the 'Roaring Twenties' parties and celebratory atmosphere - extremely delightful. Did I forgot to mentioned to say that has some delicious ... Highly recommended - it is was the BBC was re-known for producing before the conspiracy-driven conservative right-wing hyper-paranoid politics dismantled the quality, the elegance, the high standards which is now being eroded as I write to you, dear reader. Sadly. Probably irreversible. A shame. A pity. Buy this DVD as an example of a sentimental memorandum of the past and splendid BBC Dramas magnificently produced and expertly envisioned masterclass of art and faded science. Good watching. Enjoy. Amen. R.I.P. My Dearest, BBC.

The House of Elliott DVD Complete Series
When my friend who is in fashion, and a very creative person told me how wonderful this series was, I decided I must order it. (She has viewed the complete series over 70 times). This is the story of two sisters in the early '20's in England, who start their own house of fashion, "The House of Elliott". Costumes in this series are absolutely breathtaking, and the whole series, setting, costumes and characters, is a boost to your creativity. This beautiful period piece is so well done that you completely believe you're a fly on the wall, living during that time period, in those peoples' lives. I highly recommend this series. 1920s fashion house in London England, endearing characters as well as villains, light entertainment.
I may not represent the majority of viewers out there, I’m a 65yo female. I love the London England setting, the engaging and pretty sisters and the other characters, and beautiful 1920s fashions created in this series. It’s light and fun, good escape from the seriousness of things in our world right now.
