Such a great movie. This is one of John Wayne's best movies in my opinion. My father is 74 years old and i bought him this movie on VHS back in the 90's. He loves it, but in the past few years he hasn't been able to watch it because his VCR died and they don't sell them anymore. So i bought for him on DVD... I really enjoy the movie and I also enjoy watching it with him. A great Film.

One of the top 5 John Wayne movies in my opinion. Its got action, laughter and a rough and tumble Wayne kinda romance. Miners work a plot of land in Alaska. The one is in love with a lady he hasnt seen for a long time while he gained enough money to wed her. John Wayne goes to collect the lady only to find out she married in the meantime. He finds another woman like her and carts her back to Alaska for his friend to help him recover from the loss of the first lady. Wayne falls for her instead and then denies it. Finally they get together and all is right with the world again. Some great humor. The comic timing is wonderful. Loved the sceenery and bar fights. As usualy Wayne makes the greatest awkward lover possible. You cant help but enjoy this movie.
Sam McCord (Wayne), George Pratt (Stewart Granger), and his little brother Billy (Fabian) are prospecting for gold in turn of the 20th Century Alaska. They strike the Mother Load! It is now two years since George left his fiance Jenny in Seattle, and now Sam is heading back to bring gold mining equipment and her back to Alaska for the wedding and Honeymoon Cottage that George has built. George isn't able to go himself, because claim jumpers are everywhere. When Sam arrives to pick up Jenny in Seattle, he finds her married! Afraid that George will just die of loneliness, and somehow blame him, he decides to bring another girl for him. He meets her at a saloon and "Gentleman's Club. Her name is Angel (Capucine) and she is French and beautiful. Sam tells Angel about George's girl friend being married and that he was afraid George would die of a broken heart. Positive that George will be happy, he makes her an offer to return to Alaska with him. While in Seattle, Sam meets up with a bunch of old friends at a loggers picnic, and brings Angel with him. A great time is had by all and Sam gets drunk and passes out. Angel finds the tickets and moves all of the wedding gifts from the hotel to the boat. Sam wakes up the next day on the ship back to Alaska. The only problem is that she thinks that she is returning to be with Sam. She misunderstood his deal that he was bringing her back for George and is upset. She was in love with Sam. When the ship reaches Alaska, instead of returning to Seattle, she leaves the ship. She is in love with Sam and is determined to win him over. Angle runs into an old associate, Frankie Cannon(Ernie Kovacs). Frankie is a crook and when he saw Angel with Sam, he thought that she was running a scam and sets out to get Angel to help him rip off Sam and George. She doesn't want any part of this, and fakes a pass by Frankie to get Sam to take her to their mine. Sam is a confirmed bachelor. When they get to the mine, Sam finds out that George and Billy have been busy chasing off claim jumpers. George's younger brother Billy is seventeen and he flips when he sees Angel. While trying to impress her by drinking champagne and smoking cigars, he gets really sick. To get away from him, she moves into the honeymoon cottage that George built. Sam is trying to figure out how to tell him that Jenny was already married and had not returned with him. He had now figured out that his idea about bringing Angel along for George was a bad idea. When George gets back home and finds out that Angel is there and Jenny isn't, he is going to leave it all. After speaking with Angel he figures out that she is in love with Sam, and they set about a plan to make Sam jealous. It works, but all of a sudden soldiers arrive with the news that somebody had cross filed on their claim - Frankie! Well the fight is on. Sam is out of his mind with jealousy but just can't bring himself to say it. He is a bachelor and won't be tied down. The movie ends in a big fight with Frankie's claim being denied, George forgiving Sam, and Sam finally telling Angel that he loved her! This was a typical John Wayne movie. There was high energy, lots of comedic action, and a great cast of characters. And, there was the Duke himself. . . Good movie, a lot of fun.Vollständige Rezension lesen
