Wallace and Gromit are clay-motion characters who, whether you realize it or not, have been with us for nearly 20 years now. However, since most of their appearances have been on British TV, you may not be familiar with them. However, you might know of their, shall we say...American counterpart...in the movie called "Chicken Run" (done in same style by same creator) Wallace and Gromit are, basically, a man and his dog. That simple. It's not like Snoopy or Family Guy...the dog does not talk. Sure, he acts more like a person than a dog, but he communicates mainly by facial expressions that you will find utterly hilarious. Wallace (the man) is an inventor, and in this movie he runs a humane pest disposal service (dealing mostly in rabbits). Gromit is his co-worker. You could call "Curse of the Were-Rabbit" a family-rated horror movie. Delightful for all ages, I found not inly the story to be engaging, and the voice work to be spot-on, but I was just amazed to watch the visuals...the ever so intricate and detailed animation all done with modelling clay. No bad language, no sex, no violence...yes, this movie is 'safe'. Though I really liked the movie, I found it was a bit too long for me...and about 3/4 of the way through I was a bit restless. The extras that came with the DVD were almost more amazing than the movie itself! I love "extras" and this movie had them in spades! Commentaries, games, activities, behind the scenes, explanations of how they do the clay-work...extremely fascinating stuff! If you like clay-mation movies, or kids movies, or kid-friendly horror/suspense movies, or British movies, or comedies...then you will probably like this movie too.Vollständige Rezension lesen
With such an irresistable title I had to see the film as soon as it came out. This led to a "have got to get the DVD" moment after the showing. What's not to love about the charming, loopy, and sweet world of cheese-loving Wallace and his oh-so-stalwart dog, Gromit. In this incarnation the inventor and man-of-all-trades Wallace, is the successful proprietor of "Anti-Pesto," a humane pest removal service. The residents of his village rely on the pair's services as they fanatically tend their gardens in hopes of winning the annual veggie prize given by the daffy Lady Tottington (voiced by Helena Bonham Carter). Never one to shy away from a wild contraption, Wallace has invented the Bun-Vac 6000 that sucks up the offending bunnies harmlessly and earns the patronage of animal lover Lady Tottington. In the process Wallace and Gromit incur the wrath of zealous hunter Victor Quartermaine, Lady Tottington's suitor, who is voiced to the hilt by Ralph Fiennes with madcap relish. I'll let you discover Wallace & Gromit's wild journey to deal with the dreaded monster Were-Rabbit who ravenously terrorizes the neighborhood and threatens the upcoming vegatable competition. Even more, you can marvel how Gromit, a clay-mation dog who can't talk, can convey thousands of emotions with a furrowed brow and a large pair of paws. The world of Wallace & Gromit embodies an innocence and belief in old-time virtues that usually seems attainable only in nostalgia and yet is quite at home here. The loyal and true Gromit always has Wallace's back and his quick-thinking bravery manages to pull Wallace out of one scrape after another. The special features on the DVD give some informative and interesting insights on the collaborative and creative process that goes into such a large-scale clay-mation feature. Check out "How to Build a Bunny" to get step-by-step instructions on clay bunny making. Enjoy this animated delight with kids or on your own, but be sure to bring out a bowl of veggies and a plate of cheese and crackers. Whatever latent vegetarian tendancies you have will awaken by the end of the movie.Vollständige Rezension lesen

I always love seeing the inventive-ness of the Wallace & Gromit movies, from their interesting and quirky machines, to the ways in which clay is manipulated to add to the theatricality of it all. This movie is part horror and part mystery while still maintaining a friendly feel. The characters of Wallace and his partner Gromit are well thought-out and what also makes this movie great is the extreme attention to detail that the claymation artists have put into their work.
