A coworker told me this book is a very important read, so I purchased it on his recommendation. I found it to be somewhat offensive. I understand what the author is trying to say, but I found him to broadbrush and generalize, and then use profanity and vulgarity to emphasize his points, which sometimes I agreed with, and often found that he overgeneralized his points, having the opposite effect of what I think he intended. This book starts out by saying that it wasn't written for publication, that Mr. Reich never intended it for "the masses". This is an example of what, for me, ended up being a waste of my time reading it. There were one or two points made that I agree with, but that life had already shown me, in a gentler way and, or course, without the profanity. After reading this book, I read up on Mr Reich, and understand "where he's coming from", but I still do not agree with much of what he said, nor how he words it. I take it for what it was, just his personal ruminations which often involved silly garbage, that was never intended for anyone else to read.Vollständige Rezension lesen
I enjoyed this book. It seemed to be written as a response to the littleness displayed by some critic or other. I enjoyed the author's innocence. I thought Reich made some interesting psychological observations. Though some of his methods nad observations (like Freud's) are reaching and seem immature. I am looking forward to reading more.
