For real Monkee fans
I watched this movie when it first came out in 2000. I also studied the background of it. The producers did a casting call and got for young man that looked very much like the original Monkees to play their parts. What's interesting, just a little kid bed, is that they took lease for guys that were cash and just put them in a room for a few hours and tell them to get to know each other, talk while playing around, just get to know each other. If you're really want to know about the monkeys and their arjan's, look up the True Hollywood Story on YouTube it's an hour and a half long, but it features all four of the original monkeys, they tell the whole story about how that came to be, including the fact that Peter was the only one who had a lot I've musical experience. I absolutely adored The Monkees, because I was 11 at the time. My favorite was Peter, who unfortunately died a few days ago from mouth cancer. He was so quirky and silly an oddball, but very few people know that he was a musical genius. Anyway, I love them all. I wish it was 1967 again!

What I loved about this movie was that these actors played exactly like the real monkees they even looked somewhat like the real monkees, The real songs of the monkees were played in the movie. At the end of the movie the real monkees Davy, Micky and Peter each gave there version of the story the way it exactly happened. Peter Tork (Former Monkee) explains more in detail the real untold story on the monkees. He remembered Names, Places and word by word what was said at the time he was the monkee in the 60s. Peter Tork explains that some of the scence never happen. I bought the DVD thinking that the untold story of the Monkee's were there true life story but it wasn't. If you purchase the DVD click on the "Interviews with the original Monkees" hear each monkee's version of there story. ... Daydream Believers: The Monkees' Story (2002, DVD)
Although I bid on this item by mistake thinking that it was a movie by the original Monkees (I really did not read the description well!), I truly enjoyed it, as it was a fun, biographical recount of the Monkees "era" and brought back memories of my early teen years, so the intent of my purchase was fulfilled regardless.... I sang-along and recalled the details of my favorite group at the time (The Beatles and the rest of the British invasion were too grown-up... they caught my interest later, when I was older and... after the Monkees were gone).Although I bid on this item by mistake thinking that it was a movie by the original Monkees (I really did not read the description well!), I truly enjoyed it, as it was a fun, biographical recount of the Monkees "era" and brought back memories of my early teen years, so the intent of my purchase was fulfilled regardless.... I sang-along and recalled the details of my favorite group at the time (The Beatles and the rest of the British invasion were too grown-up... they caught my interest later, when I was older and... after the Monkees were gone).

Surprisingly good!
I bought this solely because Polly Shannon has a minor part, but it is a nice movie. The Monkees were obviously an odd band, in that they grew out of a TV show and had very little street cred. This film does a good job of framing their dilemma and being non-judgmental about how they tried to solve it, e.g., by doing real gigs and writing their own songs. The irony is that they could never catch up or compete with the real innovators of that time (Beatles, Doors, etc). Great movie at a good price! A must have for Any Monkees fan@
This is a good movie! If you are a true Monkees fan, then you will know this movie isn't 100% accurate, but is amazing to have a movie about this awesome group! They did a decent job and would highly recommend getting to any Monkees collection especially since some of the original members make cameos!
