I learnt shibori using another terrific book. The excellent thing about this book by Jane Callender is that it is extremely methodical and the explanations are easy enough to follow. More than that, Callender writes from the perspective of the practice of shibori, which is to say that she talks about the effects one would get, for example, if using thread floats above the surface and below it, amongst other things. Plus, without explicitly going step by step, Callender actually takes one through the steps. In this way, she encourages experimentation. As a result of working with the examples in the book, I have found practical solutions to design questions. The pictures in the book are extremely helpful, as well. By the time one works through the exercises from pages 22-33, one's shibori skills will have increased incredibly. Today, I used pulled cloth through beads and so created a marvelous resist that looks incredibly skillful. Callender's book makes it possible for the shibori designer to create the images visualized and just fly.Vollständige Rezension lesen
