Product Information

Pressured with tight deadlines, application developers do not have the luxury of keeping completely up-to-date with all of the latest innovations in software engineering. Once in a great while, a tremendous resource comes along that helps these professionals become more efficient. The first two editions of UML Distilled have been perennial best-sellers because of their concise, yet thorough, nature. This eagerly-anticipated third edition allows you to get acquainted with some of the best thinking about efficient object-oriented software design using the latest version of the industry-standard for modeling software: UML 2.0. The author has retained the book's convenient format that has made it an essential resource for anyone who designs software for a living. The book describes all the major UML 2.0 diagram types, what they are intended to do, and the basic notation involved in creating and deciphering them. A true treasure for the software engineering community.

Detailed carefully written and seems very accurate as I am a fan of Marilyn's for 62 years, and talked to a secondary producer that worked with her on "The Prince and the Showgirl"(and also with Elizabeth Taylor on "A Little Night Music') so this book presents accurate albeit fictionalized events, It is a compelling read without being sloppily exploitive.

  • A very good overview of UML

Fowler does a very good job of providing a high level introduction of this material. Drawing on personal anecdotes, he humanizes the material as much as possible (no mean feat when dealing with this subject). This book is not meant to be the end-all, be-all on the topic, but is a great introduction for someone needing to get up and running using UML quickly.

  • Good book for basic understanding

if you want to grasp the concept and have the necesary tools to work with UML in agile enviroment, this is the book for you. Addtionally it guides you for further resources in case you need to be more specific on any of the subjects.
