I originally decided to seek out this DVD after receiving the complete series of Blackadder for Christmas. Frankly, I'm amazed this show isn't more widely known. NTNON is rapid fire sketch comedy that reminds this observer of a hybrid of the styles of Monty Python and Mr. Show. Rowan Atkinson is brilliant here, as are the rest of the cast. The one potential downfall may be that many of the jokes were very topical for their time, so viewers who weren't up on current events in England during the time the show was airing may not get as much out of them. However, most of the humour on the show is very universal, and requires little frame of reference. Most of the humour draws from sophisticated word play and absurd situations. "Why don't you grow up, you little bastards?!?!?!" "Who are you talking to, dear?" "Oh, just the plants." Also, let it be known that Rowan Atkinson pretended that spray paint was deodorant to avoid getting arrested LONG before Will Smith did it in the opening of Fresh Prince. I can't recommend Not the 9 O'Clock News enough.Vollständige Rezension lesen
Not only was I able to see the amazing and talented Rowan Atkinson in his first role on TV but you can see Mr.Bean forming in his mind as well as the Police Officer from Thin Blue Line in his earliest form. The other cast members are equally talented and form such amazing characters in their own right, but only one would I see in later work on Whose Line. Overall this was amazing and I only regret that this was the Best, I would love to see more, even the so so.
Extremely entertaining and funny. If you're a fan of British comedy you will truly enjoy this early work by the cast who have all gone on to be recognized in many other things. A gift to my husband (big fan of Rowan Atkinson) and he was very happy with this DVD.
