This story is about a tribe of hunters called the Yagahl who hunt wholly mammoths called mannacks. The tribe finds a young girl named Evolet and the Old Mother (seer) says Evolet is part of the prophecy that will help to free her people, along with the man that loves her. D'leh is a young hunter who falls in love with Evolet. He tells her, she will always be with him and points to the brightest star in the sky. D'leh yearns to win the white spear and Evolet's hand in marriage. He wins the white spear after accidentally killing the mannack and gives it back. While D'leh is away from the tribe, they are attacked by four legged demons, who burn the village, kill some of the villages and take Evolet and her people as prisoners. D'leh vows to bring Evolet back; this is the beginning of a journey full of adventure (the saber tooth, giant killer birds and mammoths); meeting other tribes - forming alliances and becoming one to battle an evil empire; mysteries unveiled (D'leh father's path); and doing everything it takes to free his woman and his people. I don't need to give every single detail, you have to watch it for yourself. This DVD was a great watch on Movie Night and my son and family members enjoyed it. Highly recommended.Vollständige Rezension lesen
My lasting impression of `10,000 B.C`. is how good of a movie it really is. Not great, mind you, but I was impressed at the quality and the quantity of the action scenes. Never were there wooly mammoth sized pauses or unnecessary delays in the story or action. (Thanks to 'Independence Day' director Roland Emmerich and editor Alexander Berner.) Visually, the action is well framed and expertly shot. They may have taken liberties with history, but we're not really supposed to care. Giant ostriches and saber tooth tigers? Well, I thought man wasn't as well developed by then and animal evolution was far behind, but the movie isn't pretentious (well, okay, except maybe the title); it's an adventure meant to entertain. We even reach a well-developed civilization by then, far beyond cave man culture. The plot is about as simple as the people who fill the screen. O'Leh (Steven Strait) is the Beowulf of cavemen times. He must rescue his woman, Evolet (Camilla Belle), and free his people while repairing the reputation of his allegedly cowardly father. (I guess chivalry didn't start in medieval times after all.) His companions, like Tic'Tic (Cliff Curtis) provide more conflict and tension to the story, and, in the prehistoric fray are visions and visionaries (like Old Woman) who forecast the future and give advice. Most warriors rely on signs and wonders rather than on primitive compasses. Customs bind them all, and a handle on nature is the key to tribal success. Compared to other cave men movies, this one is ahead by every frame. Wisely, we mostly get people talking in our own language without all the "Ugh's" and grunts of past early man movies. I can't emphasize enough how beautiful the scenes are shot as the tribe whizzes through snowy mountains, endless jungles, and vast deserts. As dangers come before them, the menace is close to the camera and harrowing to watch. Don't expect the film to be the next `Jurassic Park' or as intense as 'Mel Gibson's Apocalypto (Widescreen Edition)' or '300 (Full Screen Edition),' but if you want a movie that gives you something to look at for nearly two hours and never lets up, '10,000 B.C.' is essential viewing.Vollständige Rezension lesen
We give 10,000 B.C. a Rating of Average, as it was not as good as we were anticipating and hoped for, based on what we have seen in the Pre-Views and Trailers. With five adults watching this movie for the first time(tonight), three of us thought it was just shy of good or good, and the other two of us had lost our attention right off the bat. The two of us just felt it was somewhat dry and couldnt hold our attention for more than 4-5 minutes at a time. It does offer nice special effects, but other than that, I guess since 3 of the 5 of us thought it was "good", I guess [renting it] was an "okay" deal. Rent It or Buy It? Our opinion... we recommend RENTING IT FIRST. Our Overall Rating: 5.5-6.0 out of 10 If you love movies, we have over 175 other Movie Reviews we encourage you to browse at your convenience. This movie brilliantly weaves myth and legend together and even though it has a "Braveheart" type feel to it, it is indeed an epic love story that is unique in its own way as well. The plot of the story is that the Yagahl people are struggling to survive and are on the verge of starving. When Evolet (Camilla Belle),the blue-eyed girl is found and brought back to the tribe, the elder, whom they all call "Old Mother" tells her people that the child with the blue eyes has been sent to their tribe by the Yagahl fathers (spirits of old tribe members) and that she is there to fulfill a prophecy that will save the Yagahl. D'Leh (Steven Strait) and Evolet are smitten with one another from the day she first came to live with his people after the "four legged demons" killed her entire family and village. Their love is a sweet and innocent love that grows over the years and draws you even more into the movie. When they are older, D'Leh wins the white spear after killing the manic (mammoth) and claims her as his woman. But they are torn apart by the Four Legged Demons that kidnap her as well as many of the Yagahl brothers and sisters, forcing them into slavery and sending D'Leh on a journey to save her and his people.Vollständige Rezension lesen
This movie received a lot of mixed reviews, but despite any bad ones, it made an astounding $94,770,548 at the box office and the DVD rental and sales are making this movie one to be remembered, even if SOME of the critics did not like it. Personally, I EXTREMELY enjoyed this movie SO much, that I watched it several different times. Steven Strait (who played in Undiscovered and The Covenant) was an absolutely brilliant choice to play D'Leh. I don't believe any other actor could have given this character the life that Steven Strait gave him. This movie brilliantly weaves myth and legend together and even though it has a "Braveheart" type feel to it, it is indeed an epic love story that is unique in its own way as well. D'Leh , along with his great Uncle, Tic'Tic embark on a journey that brings out the great Warrior in D'leh that he never knew he was. Along the way, they come across prehistoric giant birds that want them for dinner, as well as D'Leh and his unforgettable encounter with the "spear tooth" (Sabertooth Tiger) that is also one of my fav parts of the movie. D'Leh and Tic Tic also meet different tribes of people, with many interesting characters who have also had their people stolen by the "four legged demons", and join D'Leh as he leads them to the Temple of the Gods, and to fight against an army that serves a man that calls himself the "Almighty" and claims to be a God. If you want an accurate film about life in the year 10,000 B.C. then this is not the movie for you, as it has a wonderfu mix of history and fantasy but does not truly depict what history tells us about life in that era. It does however weave together myths and legends that is extremely entertaining and is so worth watching. Within the story of D'Leh and his Great Uncle meeting all different types of unique people from different lands and uniting with them to bring down the evil people that stole and killed their people, a beautiful love story is also one of the many great reasons to watch this movie. D'Leh walks to the ends of the Earth to free his one and only love, Evolet, and we get to watch him on his unforgetable journey to free her. This is definately worth buying...and gets even better with each time you watch it, as you get to see and experience different things with each viewing.Vollständige Rezension lesen
