I bought this processor out of curiosity, as reviews by many web sites indicate the overall performance of the Intel K series processors to be vastly superior to equivalent AMD processors. My comparison is based on my use of an AMD Phenom II Black Edition X4 985 3.7 Gig processor. With me not being an avid gamer or interested in overclocking, I am unable to see any concernable difference in performance based on my day to day use of the computer. I believe the memory management to be better with the Intel CPU and am very appreciative of the reduced wattage (heat) usage in comparison to AMD processors. Price wise for my personal use, the AMD is more cost effective. I can purchase an AMD 8 core 4.0 gig processor, for about the same price of an Intel 4 core 3.4 gig processor. This is not to say the intel CPU is a bad processor as it performs quite well, but for my own personal use I do not notice much of an increase in performance to substantiate the difference in cost for what appears to be on paper, a slower speed processor. This seems to verify the adage" a person can get 80% of the power of an intel CPU when purchasing an AMD CPU, for 60% of the cost.Vollständige Rezension lesen
While Intel and enthusiasts would like you to believe that your computer might as well be a relic if it doesn't have the latest processor, Real world tinkerers like myself beg to differ. There's a reason these processors have retained their value so well, and that's because there haven't been any leaps and bounds in performance since around 2010. New processors use less power, and they do perform a bit better overall, but not enough to justify the price for many. The next step up from this CPU would be the "unlocked" K version i5 (same specs, no integrated graphics, overclock capable) This processor still functions better at common tasks than a current generation processor that retails at twice the price (compared to the going used rate of this CPU) For a budget minded builder, this can still make a fantastic gaming PC as this processor's generation is the beginning of on board PCIE 3.0 support. You could run even the fastest GPU on the market and not use half the bandwidth of a 16-lane PCIe slot, which leaves you open to run full speed using 8 lanes (For crossfire or SLI situations) The bad part is this is when Intel decided they were going to cheap-out on the TIM between the processor chip and the heat spreader. You will sometimes see higher Temps than what you should. Intel tried to pass it off as a consequence of die-shrink. Yeah, that should reduce heat, not increase it. The temperatures aren't going to cause issues except for those looking to overclock (which wouldn't be with this CPU anyway) but when monitoring, you will likely see some cores idling at higher temperatures than others. I still recommend this CPU simply because of the value for performance. 1155 Motherboards can still be found, and are around 30-50% cheaper than similar current gen boards, albeit without newer tech like USB 3.1 and such...Vollständige Rezension lesen

Paired with a good Z77 motherboard, I was able to easily overclock this CPU to a very reliable and relatively cool 4.2 GHz / ram at 1866. It could hit higher clocks, but more than 1.22 v plus higher temps seemed necessary to do so. It's IPC is also at least a 10% improvement over Sandy Bridge. For gaming, these are an excellent choice, even at stock frequencies.

Pros: - Easy to install - Motherboard with Ivy Bridge BIOS worked flawlessly - performance upgrade over Sandy bridge, even if its just a little bit. - price Cons: - none Other: - Capable of running modern titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Fortnite, etc - Is not an FPS powerhouse, it will be a bottleneck if paired with powerful GPU, but if running with 60fps monitors and capped at that, then there are no issues at all. - Packaged very well, better than what Intel usually do

Its better than the average Intel Core CPU, I got it to make a leap above the 3.0GHz processor that I was using on my Lenovo desktop PC. This was both the limit to the specs it would handle and the limit to the amount I was willing to spend to get better performance. I'm pleased with the change.
