Great album from this band! Specially this edition with the DVD! I really like the songs and the DVD with some videoclips of the songs and the making of make it even more valuable.
Having been a long-standing Queens of the Stone Age fan, I've recently set about finding as much limited-edition paraphernalia as I can. This CD of an excellent album, including a bonus DVD, seemed a great place to start. As an added bonus (no pun intended), you get a couple of extra tracks that aren't on the peasants' version of Lullabies to Paralyze. The album is described by Josh Homme as being a 'night' album, something that should be listened to after midnight, and he's not wrong. However, it is also the most accessible Queens album to date, without being overly commercial or retreading old Queens ground uselessly. Whereas Rated R was raw, vicious and psychedelic in equal measure, Lullabies to Paralyze is sleazy, gentle, and disturbing. Lyrical figures include fictional (or are they..?) bogeymen- werewolves, witches, ghosts of past lovers, etc. I won't give an in-depth rundown of each track, but these are my recommended tracks. Long Slow Goodbye- easily one of their best songs to date. Heart breaking lyrics, beautifully performed. The vocals are hypnotic and gentle, the guitars are still organic yet tamed. All of it blends together to create a true Queens classic which will remain undiscovered by those who discard the album after listening to the first few songs (it's the last song on the regular commerical release). Like A Drug- one of the much-coveted bonus tracks. It sounds as if it should be in Pulp Fiction, according to this reviewer and anyone else who's heard it. Sleazy to the max, more crushing lyrics and a haunting, visceral soundscape make for another unsung Queens hero. In My Head- the one that harks back most to Songs for the Deaf. Rocky, punchy, pounding and completely riff-based, it's a real crowd-pleaser and set to be a popular Queens classic (helped partly by the fact it's featured in Need For Speed Underground). You've Got A Killer Scene There, Man- a nice, slow, pondering anthem from the true masters of such things. Perfect to walk to whilst smoking a cigarette. Nothing ground-breaking, but ridiculously catchy. I Never Came- a brilliant depressing anthem, with one of the best drum beats from QOTSA yet. A very different mood from the rest of the favourites, no distorted guitars or typically idiosyncratic solos to be found here. Just a very hypnotising song. The rest of the tunes are very good, but those are my personal choices. Little Sister is good, but in my opinion a misguided choice for a single release with so much more promising material on the album. The bonus DVD is amazing- a really interesting insight into how the album was recorded (Billy Gibbons features)- and there's a hilarious 'session' between Josh and Sara Silverman, his 'psychologist'. If you're a Queens fan, you need this. If you're not, buy it anyway and spend a long time listening to this brilliant album. It's not really the most listenable thing at 3 in the afternoon, but put it on around 10pm while you're reading or doing something undemanding and it'll all make sense. Make time for the recommended tracks- they're incredible. After that, delve into the slick, sleazy, dark underworld that Queens of the Stone Age have created.Vollständige Rezension lesen
I just happened to see this band in July when i went to see Foo Fighters in Hyde Park. I'd heard some of the first album before but hadn't really paid any attention until i saw them live. Following that, i brought 'The Songs for the Deaf'.. absolutely brillant album.. a must have for any serious Rock music fans. After i managed to wear that cd out, i looked on here for a copy of 'Lullabies to Paralyze'.. minus guitarist Nick Oliveri.. still good stuff.. slightly different sound i didn't immidiately warm to.. but i kept playing it and haven't been able to stop playing since!! Track 1.. a strange start to an album i must admit..Sounds a bit like Johnny Cash!! Best track i think is the last one-bonus track- Precious and Grace..Perhaps this one should of been close to the beginning! Album arrived in good condition in Limited Edition copy.. well worth the money.Vollständige Rezension lesen
OK, I admit it. I'm biased. QOTSA is one of my favourite bands of all time. This album moves away from the heavy rock vibe of "Songs from the deaf". Lullabies is a more brooding, menacing afair. Especcially when you take 2 of my fav tracks "The Blood is Love" & "Someones in the Wolf". You still get the more lighter "pop" friendly tunes such as "Little Sister" and "In My Head" in which the last one itself will have you tapping your foot and nodding your head in appreciation !!!. The album delivers a great overall sonic delight with catchy riffs, great drumlines and rememberable lyrics. The DVD itself contains some interesting features including some great behind the scenes insight from the studio, which if your like me, an aspiring musician yourself, is great to watch !!!! .... Buy it, listen to it ... You won't regret it !!!Vollständige Rezension lesen
This is the best Queens Of The Stone Age album. I personally think it's better than Songs For The Deaf "Everybody Knows That Your Insane" is in a league of its own, it's a brilliant song, as is Little Sister, In My Head and Medication, infact I don't think there's a bad song on the album!!
Lullabies to paralyze you with boredom . This is to prove Queens of the stone age are dead no wonder josh spends his time with E.O.D.M.
Bought this album as the previous one that I'd bought - Songs for the Deaf - was fantastic. I'd only heard one track off this album though, 'Little Sister', so didn't quite know what to expect. It didn't let me down!!! This is an excellent album, soothing riffs and melodies bursting into life when you least expect it, coupled with some fantastically haunting songs that I fell in love with. Definitely an album to play on repeat!
You ought to know Why you feel so hollow -- 'Cause you are. You're missing out, Well if you say so. Well, you're missing out. Everybody knows that you're insane. Everybody knows that you're insane. You ought to know Just how long you can hide from Where are you now Not very long. I had been lost Down every road I followed But I'd been tough, Found my way home Everybody knows that you're insane. Everybody knows that you're insane. Everybody knows that you're insane. Everybody knows that you're insane. I feel the same. And I fell in love. And I feel the same. And I fell in love. And I feel the same. And I fell in love. Everybody knows that you're insane. Everybody knows that you're insane. Everybody knows that you're insane. Everybody knows that you're insane. ;)
