Synopsis
Daniel Woodrell's modern classic is an unforgettable tale of desperation and courage that inspired the award-winning film starring Jennifer Lawrence. Ree Dolly's father has skipped bail on charges that he ran a crystal meth lab, and the Dollys will lose their house if he doesn't show up for his next court date. With two young brothers depending on her, 16-year-old Ree knows she has to bring her father back, dead or alive. Living in the harsh poverty of the Ozarks, Ree learns quickly that asking questions of the rough Dolly clan can be a fatal mistake. But, as an unsettling revelation lurks, Ree discovers unforeseen depths in herself and in a family network that protects its own at any cost. The seller is one of the best there is - high quality books, reasonable prices, securely packaged. I do, however, recommend some changes to their shipping - they show a shipper (SortHub) on eBay, but the tracking # they email is for a different carrier. It’s difficult to know where my purchase is. This time, it was delivered a week late. In the grand scheme of things not a big deal. But it shouldn’t be this difficult to accurately track my purchase.

  • A stark view if the Ozark family.

We chose this novel as a book club selection. It turned out to be a rather interesting novel. It is set in the Ozarks, sometime in the modern era. The reader gets an inside look at the society of the inbred families there and at their code of honor. The jargon is authentic and somewhat difficult to master. This is a disturbing work, brutal in places. But it is a clear example of an author writng what he knows. It is a thought-provoking story and worthy in that respect.
