Good quality zoom for Pentax
Have used lens for some time and I enjoy having just one lens that does everything. Wide angle to zoom and closeup. The image quality is good, especially if you stop down to around f8. Close up capability is nice especially since it is at the telephoto mode. Again, the more you stop down the better the sharpness. It is on the heavy side but what do you expect for this type of zoom and all the glass involved. Unlocking the lens will cause it to slide down to tele position if you are not careful and hold the camera facing down. OK Glass
There is definitely a noticeable decrease in color saturations compared to my Pentax DA star lenses. However, it does have an incredible focal length and is fast , and a Focal length not offered by anyone else. In the old days my absolute favorite lens was a Tokina ATX 50-250. an amazing macro lens! I am hoping to over-expose and develop from raw format to modify the saturation levels, to create what my eye compares too my minds eye of the actual shot when it was composed. pros: - Wide variety of focal lenghs, - Silent and quick AF, - OS feature performs well, - High quality plastic, Cons: - Not accurate AF, - AF hunts and not succeed in low light situation, - Small focus ring, not possible to have manual lens if focal is 18mm and hood is inverted. - CA is noticeably high. Overall, must have lens if you not consider on pro quality image, don't like changing lenses often, don't want to pay more to have many lenses and carry less when shooting. you must not have this lens if you consider on sharpness, clean image, blurred background, accurate and faster AF. I regret having this lens. One lens for all occasions.
Lens has met all my expectations. The range from 18mm to 250mm eliminates the need for having to carry around more lenses. The sharpness and contrast values are more than adequate and the zoom is smooth and easy to use. Very pleased with images. I mainly shoot landscapes which means I'm shooting at a small aperture therefore keeping everything in focus. I think the lens is excellent value for the money and is comparable to other lenses in the same category,Lens has met all my expectations.
