Reviews
"The editors of Christina Rossetti: Poetry in Art --which is advertised as the first book to bring this material together--are surely right to argue that she composed her work in an atmosphere saturated with visual art."--Ruth Bernard Yeazell, New York Review of Books "One might easily take Susan Owens and Nicholas Tromans's beautiful, copiously illustrated volume for the catalog of an exhibition. . . . . Christina Rossetti: Poetry In Art is most valuable for the way it encourages us to read Rossetti imaginatively, in both media, for ourselves."--Elizabeth Helsinger, Victorian Studies Long listed for the Historians of British Art Book Prize, "The editors of Christina Rossetti: Poetry in Art --which is advertised as the first book to bring this material together--are surely right to argue that she composed her work in an atmosphere saturated with visual art."--Ruth Bernard Yeazell, New York Review of Books, "The editors of Christina Rossetti: Poetry in Art --which is advertised as the first book to bring this material together--are surely right to argue that she composed her work in an atmosphere saturated with visual art."--Ruth Bernard Yeazell, New York Review of Books Long listed for the Historians of British Art Book Prize

Synopsis
The first art book to explore Rossetti's art and poetry together, including her own artworks, illustrations to her writing, and art inspired by her Christina Rossetti (1830-1894) is among the greatest of English Victorian poets. The intensity of her vision, her colloquial style, and the lyrical quality of her verse still speak powerfully to us today, while her striking imagery has always inspired artists. Rossetti lived in an exceptionally visual environment: her brother, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, was the leading member of the avant-garde Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, and she became a favorite model for the group. She sat for the face of Christ in William Holman Hunt's The Light of the World , while both John Everett Millais and Frederick Sandys illustrated her poetry. Later on, the pioneering photographer Julia Margaret Cameron and the great Belgian Symbolist Fernand Khnopff were inspired by Rossetti's enigmatic verses. This engaging book explores the full artistic context of Rossetti's life and poetry: her own complicated attitude to pictures; the many portraits of her by artists, including her brother, John Brett, and Lewis Carroll; her own intriguing and virtually unknown drawings; and the wealth of visual images inspired by her words. - o***l (310)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letztes JahrBestätigter KaufThe item was described to a Tee. Very good communication. Shipping was just a little slow. The box the set of books comes in was damaged (bent corners) due to packaging. Not a deal breaker because the grand kids will not store in that box; might be if it were to be given as a present. The three books in the box arrived in prefect shape. I WOULD purchase from greatbookprices1 again in the future. ThanksConstruction Site Board Books Set, Hardcover by Rinker, Sherri Duskey; Lichte... - i***y (711)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter Kauf2 volumes of Pogo comic strips, new and in perfect condition. Price was good, but shipping cost ($30 for two books) seems like a lot for how long it took to get delivered (23 days from Illinois to Spain). Also, seller communication was not great. First two times I wrote, their response did not address question. Third response explained at length about the private courier service they use and how it should take 1-10 business days to deliver. Maybe they should consider a different courier service.
- r***_ (108)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter Kauf*Same as the other review* Purchased two box sets from this seller with one being advertised as "like new" but was delivered as if it was actually new. Shipping time was a little slow, takes about 10 days to ship out and it takes a while to get through the system. But the packing was great and I'm still overall happy with my purchase.
