Not quite as advertised
I bought this direct box specifically as a cheap alternative for reamping guitars in my studio. Running signal into the 1/4" input and out through the XLR sounds okay (just a slight low end roll off, nothing extremely noticeable), but running signal into the XLR jack and out the 1/4" jack sounds awful. Measuring the signal on a RTA, there was nothing being reproduced below 400 Hz. My only reason for not sending it back is because it sounds fine converting unbalanced to balanced signals, and return shipping would probably be as much as the box itself cost. This passive DI-box is a great little tool that provides attenuation to interface a line or instrument output with a balanced microphone input. Some notes on this box are that the 0db attenuation still has some attenuation. The -20db attenuation sounded funny, but that is probably because I used the same equipment for all attenuation settings. With each attenuation setting, I had to adjust the input volume accordingly. This device also has some ground lift switches that can prevent ground loops. All the devices that I tried this with did not have their own internal grounding, so I needed to have the ground come from the mixer. I did get some hum when I would touch the case, just like I did with other DI-boxes. This product, Pyle-Pro PDC21 Instrument To Balanced and Unbalanced audio lines, is the third one that I use as an interface between my Behringer MX-1604A mixer output to a Ham Radio transceiver Yaesu, Kenwood, or Icom microphone input, via a Heil CC-1 XLR Y-BAL Cable or generic cable. In this type of configuration, the Pyle-Pro PDC21, as an interface box, ensures impedance matching and hum reduction, with it's Ground Loop Lift circuitry. Built like a tank!
These are heavier than I thought. Have a great sound (not colored), easy to use. All inputs and out puts are clearly labeled. Only time will tell if they hold up. Think I'll order 2 or 3 more!

Great value
Use this DI box for live sound application for electronic drum machine. It makes the unit more like "real" drums and enhances the fullness of the sound. It is very easy to use and is housed in a rugged steel box. There are more expensive and complicated DI boxes out there but for the price and functionality, this unit is hard to beat. Would buy another if this one broke.
