Judith Just has assembled a beautiful selection of Lea Stein jewelry. It is a coffee table book that is wonderful to share with others. New collectors will find it an invaluable resource. The price ranges for pieces are for 2001 so should not be relied on. This book does not provide enough narrative for me. Since the designer is still alive, it would have been more interesting if Judith Just had interviewed her and presented more of her life, the development of her business, her influence on other artists and the volume of pieces in the market place. I understand that the cellulose lamination process is confidential. Surely some information could be presented without compromising corporate secrets.
In my opinion, the book is a waste of money. It features a lot of photos of Lea Stein's designs, but the photography is sometimes amateuristic, at best. And as a price guide, it's just about useless. Almost every piece of jewelry is quoted in the same price range. You'd be better off paying close attention to eBay's listings. You'll get a much more accurate idea of what things are really selling for.
I think the book is limited. A lot of pieces were left out.

Lots of pictures and information about how the jewelry was made.

I became very interested in Lea Stein's jewelry and wanted a reference book in order to learn more about the artist and her jewelry. This book does just that and also provides beautiful color photographs of many of her pieces. It is just what I was looking for......
