As a lifelong Beatles fan and guitarist/drummer, I found this book to be a fascinating trip down memory lane. The book goes into great detail regarding the various stages of the band's evolution, and the types of instruments and electronics they used during each phase of their career. Many books have been written about the Beatles themselves in the form of biographies, or from the position of someone who was close to them at some point. This book is a completely different take on that point in history, as it deals exclusively with their equipment. Beatles Gear takes the reader from the early days of the band when they struggled to achieve notoriety, playing around the Mersey scene in clubs like the Cavern and the Jacaranda, to the seedy clubs of Hamburg Germany in the late 50's and ... If someone was trying to replicate the Beatles signature sound, for example, if they were trying to put together a Beatles tribute band, this book would be a most valuable resource. Of all the books that I own on the topic of "the Fab Four", this is by far my favorite, as it provides the reader with an insight into the inner workings of the music itself. Whether you're an instrument collector, a hardcore Beatles fan seeking to learn everything you can about the lads from Liverpool, or simply a lover of historical facts, you will surely find this book to be a most interesting read. Personally; as all of the above, I found it quite difficult to put down.

Filled with so much information about the Guitars, drums and recording equipment that they used throughout there thime together. This book starts with John Lennon's first guitar he got as a Liverpool youth. Covers the Cavern Club equipment through Abbey Road and everything in between. Great stories form people who were there, including The Quarry Men. The author will even give different versions of stories and admit not knowing which one is true, such as where John's first guitar came from. Was it bought by his Aunt Mimi, did he send away for it through a mail order advertisement?This book is a must book for everyone who thinks they know everything about the Beatles, or for the fan who wants to know more.
