I am half way through, and this book covers a lot and is excellent. If it was about a UK plane, I am fairly sure that a lot of it would still be covered by Official Secrets (actual missions, all of the failures etc etc). It includes pre-SR71 planes and lots of details about the ups & downs of the SR71 development & active service. The technology of the plane that enabled its performance is fascinating (& an insight into what would be required for commercial aviation to exceed Concorde, i.e. a heck of a lot). As always, it is the human elements that are most engaging: the pilot whose plane disintegrates around him at Mach 3.18/78,800ft and, what happens on his next flight is, as a memory, worth the purchase price of the book on its own. This is a very substantial volume and great VFM. Strongly recommended.Vollständige Rezension lesen
