Reviews
'I like the way he can paint a picture with what he says.' - David Bowie 'He was enigmatic, mysterious and with some of his latter recordings, to me, infuriating. An absolute musical genius, existential and intellectual and a star right from the days of the Walker Brothers.' - Marc Almond 'One of the most enigmatic and influential figures in rock history.' - BBC 'I feel I'm writing for everyone, but they haven't discovered it yet. They will - I'll just be six feet under.' - Scott Walker

Synopsis
Scott arrived in the UK in 1965 with 2 American friends and formed The Walker Brothers. Their second release 'Make It Easy On Yourself' went to Number 1 in the British Charts and Number 16 in the US. Responsible for some of the biggest hits of the 60s, Scott Walker was once more popular than The Beatles and his music influenced the likes of Radiohead, Leonard Cohen and David Bowie. The Rhymes of Goodbye tells the amazing story of Scott Walker's life and work through his songs - a track by track commentary in the tradition of Revolution In The Head that encompasses his entire career from the first Walker Brothers single up to his final work before his death in March 2019. Featuring an informed guide to Walker's exceptional and esoteric lyricism and providing an insightful analysis that will delight his legions of fans, lifelong fan Lewis Williams presents a wealth of engaging information about an artist who has been described as the most enigmatic singer of modern times. By examining Walker's unique catalogue of songs, from classics like 'The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore' to the most sought after of rarities, The Rhymes of Goodbye approaches its subject with obsessive enthusiasm to create a definitive portrait of the artist. Divided into sections that correspond to the distinct phases of Walker's recording career, this book covers the Walker Brothers' glory years - when Scott, John and Gary Walker enjoyed the same level of popularity as the Beatles, Scott's return to the public eye as a solo artists during 1967-70, his 'lost albums' of the early 1970s, the Walker Brothers reunion and the success of 'No Regrets', and his eighties forays into experimentalism and soundtracks. Additionally, obscurities such as rare live tracks by the Walker Brothers and recordings from the Scott Walker BBC TV show are explored in an insightful and fascinating manner., Responsible for some of the biggest hits of the 60s, Scott Walker was once more popular than The Beatles and his music influenced the likes of Radiohead, Leonard Cohen and David Bowie. The Rhymes Of Goodbye tells the amazing story of Scott Walker's life and work through his songs a track by track commentary in the tradition of Revolution In The Head that encompasses his entire career from the first Walker Brothers single up to his final work before his death in March 2019., Scott Walker was without parallel as an artist, acclaimed as an influence by David Bowie, Julian Cope, Marc Almond, Nick Cave and Jarvis Cocker. As lead vocalist of the Walker Brothers, his soulful baritone made him a major interpreter of heartbroken ballads. As a solo artist, the influence of balladeer Jacques Brel and existentialist literature took him to new depths of emotional expression on the albums Scott 1-4. Then came years of obscurity as a covers artist, before his career took off on a unique trajectory-witnessed by his extreme contributions to the Walkers' 1978 reunion album, Nite Flights, the opaque tone poems of the 1984's Climate of Hunter, the bewilderingly brilliant 1995 Tilt, and the unrelenting psychic assault of 2006's The Drift. In this comprehensive illustrated volume, lifelong fan Lewis Williams charts this unique and enigmatic career song by song. From his 1960s heyday to his final release in 2018, every classic, every rarity and every obscurity ever recorded by Scott Walker is detailed with an obsessive enthusiasm that only he was able to inspire. Lewis Williams is a writer, editor and publisher. His writing has covered areas as diverse as social policy, horror fiction and humour. He studied philosophy at York and Oxford universities, and worked as a researcher, writer and coordinator at Oxford University for a number of years before leaving to set up his own publishing business. The item was described to a Tee. Very good communication. Shipping was just a little slow. The box the set of books comes in was damaged (bent corners) due to packaging. Not a deal breaker because the grand kids will not store in that box; might be if it were to be given as a present. The three books in the box arrived in prefect shape. I WOULD purchase from greatbookprices1 again in the future. Thanks

2 volumes of Pogo comic strips, new and in perfect condition. Price was good, but shipping cost ($30 for two books) seems like a lot for how long it took to get delivered (23 days from Illinois to Spain). Also, seller communication was not great. First two times I wrote, their response did not address question. Third response explained at length about the private courier service they use and how it should take 1-10 business days to deliver. Maybe they should consider a different courier service.

*Same as the other review* Purchased two box sets from this seller with one being advertised as "like new" but was delivered as if it was actually new. Shipping time was a little slow, takes about 10 days to ship out and it takes a while to get through the system. But the packing was great and I'm still overall happy with my purchase.
