A happy young couple gives birth to a horrible monstrosity in this remake of Larry Cohen's 1974 killer baby classic. Graduate student Lenore (Bijou Phillips) has put her education on hold in order to have a child with her architect boyfriend Frank (James Murray). They're planning a new life together in the country when their unborn child begins growing at an alarming rate, and doctors are forced to conduct an emergency C-section for Lenore's safety. When every medic in the operating room is brutally killed, the frightened new parents rush their newborn home and do their best to pretend everything is normal - but it isn't. Their newborn son Daniel is an abomination, and prone to savagely attacking anything - and anyone - that gets in his way. Though Lenora does her best to protect Daniel, even after it's plain to see that he can't control his murderous impulses, the evidence that something is terribly wrong becomes too powerful to deny when the mangled corpses of dead animals and people begin turning up in the area, and all signs points back to the demonic little bundle of rage with an unholy appetite.

35 Years Before Remake But Came Out Very Dissappointing
I saw the original classic film at the drive-in and scared me pretty bad. I wouldn't go around babies for a few months afterward. "It's Alive's" original film debut was 1974, written by Larry Cohen. I commend the director Joseph Rusnak's ability to capture his ideas and talents on film with his fantastic direction on "The Thirteenth Floor", a sci-fi thriller of 1999. I was extremely excited to here there was a new remake of this film, hoping that the upgraded film would be very much something that would catch my interest and hold it until the end. Sorry to say that this certainly was not the case. I'm quite certain that I would never recommend the 2009 version to anyone who wants to be scared or even anyone who actually has a functioning brain. The film makes so many assumptions that ... The film makes so many assumptions that are totally outrageous to believe. Nothing makes sense about this film, although it was probably modeled exactly like the original, but it really shouldn't have. First things first, we never really know whether it's a boy or a girl. Secondly, why did they get to take the baby home so quick anyway without testing him out? How can they play like the baby is normal most of the time, but when it gets to eating animals in the crib, why do they just act like, "Oh, that's just little Daniel and his teething toys!". Give me a break here! If you make a film during a depression or even a low budget that's going to stink, at least hire more people and help the economy more. If this was filmed in New Mexico, we're tipped off at the beginning of the film credits that the film was shot in Bulgaria with a Bulgarian crew. Even if you missed the opening credits, I knew off the bat this isn't NM. We see an adobe style house at the edge of a Bulgarian forest with tall looming trees behind it. I can understand the savings by shooting in Bulgaria but how could they expect anyone in the U.S. to believe that this was NM? Why not say Washington state or some other geographically similar area? The police were really fake looking as well and never called for any additional backup. There was no reason to label this film UNRATED if there was nothing explicit, scary, confrontational about this film. Stamping this unrated makes you think it's going to automatically be scary. I'll just mention a few characters such as Nichole (Skye Bennett) for her warm-hearted presence as well as Chris Davis (Raphael Coleman) who don't seem to fit the tone of this film at all. The opening seemed pretty normal, but when a Lenore Harker (Bijou Phillips) learns that she is pregnant, she leaves graduate school to set up a home with her boyfriend Frank Davis (James Murray). Bijou has a double for her nude shower scene which she filmed having an attack before birth. The fate of the happy new family takes a semi-gruesome turn when animals and people wind up dead or mauled. The strange connection seems to be pointed to their newborn child. Could the couples new child be the monster responsible for the gruesome murders? I sincerely doubt it here. It would have been better if the writers had just written in some crazy psycho that owned the property previously and was trying to scare everyone into thinking the baby was evil. I saw the original classic film at the drive-in and scared me pretty bad. I wouldn't go around babies for a few months afterward. I never saw the original version of this film, but it doesn't take long to realize that this remake didn't do the original justice. Something about a baby being born 3 months early, with razor sharp teeth, walking/running, killing people and animals could have been scary, but they never explain how this happened in the film - so the times where you would be scared you are instead puzzled. The mother gave birth early, took the baby home, watched as he killed and terrorized people and continued to cradle it as if it were normal. How an infant can kill 200 lb adults is beyond me - is it an alien, part animal, what the heck is wrong with it?
