The 40D is just another amazing camera off the EOS line from Canon. It has every feature a portrait or sports photographer could ask for including high shutter speeds for bright daylight, a 1.6x crop for a little extra reach with your zoom lenses, and many accessories to get the razor sharp images you desire. The LCD screen on the back does not leave much to be desired in terms of preview, you can zoom in to check clarity of your focus. The controls for the camera are all very well placed and do not become uncomfortable even after hours of use! Overall, this Camera gets an "Excellent" rating from me in all categories, performance, build quality, comfort of use, ease of use, and versatility.
Wanted to upgrade from my canon 20D and when I saw the price along with the 28-135mm IS lens had to scoop it up! Nice upgrade from the 20D I have. Higher burst capabilities and custom functions make this a nice semi-professional camera, along with the 3 inch view screen. 10 MP is more then enough for my needs and the wide choice of both EF-S and EF lens by Canon and third party providers makes any Canon camera a great choice!
This is not a throw and go camera, although you can put it in auto and just shoot away, I got a 50mm 1.4 lens for indoor pics, and I don't need the flash, I want a picture of what I see, and this camera will do that, this is a hobby and you can spend a ton of time learning, your reward is some unbelievable pictures. I would say the photo program you choose will be harder to learn than this camera, which is the other half of this hobby. So if you just want to shoot and print I wouldn't recommend this camera, but if you want to get right into it go for it. Good equipment is kind of a investment as it holds it's value
I always loved photography and I decided to step up to the DSLR level. I started doing my research a long time ago about what camera should I buy. I spent a lot of time comparing brands and models. I personally like CANON because I have been around CANON cameras most of the time and I like the way that they make cameras. My budget was limited, I did not want to spend thousands of dollars for a First Time Camera, so keeping that in mind I am going to tell the story about How I Bought this Camera. Before I bought this camera I though that a great entry level camera will be the XSi(450d). Then I changed my mind because I felt that the Xsi was an "OLD" camera with a poor quality construction and specifications compared to the Big Brothers. After rejecting that option I started looking the T1i(500d) and T2i(550d), both entry level cameras but with NEW and better components, and also the VIDEO feature. After discussing this with people who know about photography I started to realize that Photography is like a Never Ending Race, you look for a camera and then you say: -"Ok, if I spend just a little bit more I have this one that is a little bit better" and it never ends! Tired of "wasting" my time in something that looks simple I decided that I was going to get the CANON 7D, yeah, I forgot my budget, promptly I gave up the idea of having a DSLR and not having money to buy some lens. Finally, when I was starting to hate photography, even though I did not have a camera yet, I remembered that I friend of mine told me that She got a CANON 40d, the speedy one. Suddenly I said to myself that VIDEO is not necessary on a DSLR camera yet and I did not want a camera with video. After I eliminated that option I read about the 40D and its good body desing, resistant and tough and its quality. I got impressed that many photographers still like/love this camera. FINAL VERDICT: I like sports/outdoor photography. Now, since I have this camera, I know that I made a good choice buying this camera. Now, it is "cheaper" than it was when it came out and it takes great pictures about everything. Very fast, nice quality and it gives you the option to experiment and try new things, no matter if you are just a beginner, this Semi-Pro camera will be your friend for a long time.Vollständige Rezension lesen
This is camera for serious amatuers and semi-pros alike. Whereas the EOS 30D provided few improvements over the 20D this EOS 40D has everything needed to produce quality images. Sure, 10.1 MP may not seem very large these, BUT don't be fooled by the MP trap. This 40D is some camera with great features and probably as good as you'll find in the APS-C series. It compares well to my 7D which is only better if you use quality L series glass. For around $600 you cant go wrong.... BUY ONE!
