Stone Cold Classics !
You might say this record serves as a sort of distillation of the Stones' musical essence. I wish 'Lady Jane' was here, but other than that the song selection is just about perfect. The sound is great, and the cover photography was obviously a quality effort as well. The Rolling Stones, along with The Yardbirds, even more than The Beatles, were probably the main inspiration for most of the great American Garage bands of the Mid-to-Late 60's. Listening to this album, it's easy to see why. The original Stones songs are brilliant, and the covers are great, too. Mick Jagger's voice is strong and melodic, the band is tight, and there is some very tasty Rock guitar work of the old school variety (you won't hear that style today). 'The Last ... Not big, great they are!
Being surrounded by their fans, I don't like Rolling Stones. However hard my friends tried to convert me, it didn't work. I've never had any RS albums on LP. I've never had any RS albums on CD. This is the only album I've got, and I'm happy with it. The only RS song that I like, namely As Tears Go By, is included. I can tolerate the rest, it brings up nostalgic mood. Sound quality of the SACD is very good, this adds to listening pleasure. I think this is the best buy for those who don't like the band, but can't deny that it's great.
