Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart were one of the most prolific songwriting teams in the heyday of rock and roll. Not only were they a hit-writing team, but whenever a '60s-era sitcom (Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie)needed rock & rollers, it was Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart who were called upon. Turned down for roles in the sit-com The Monkees, they nevertheless wrote and produced some of the best songs for the group, and toured with what arguably should have been the cast: Bobby Hart, Tommy Boyce, Mickey Dolenz, and Davey Jones. (However, as a Monkees fan at the time, I can't imagine them without Peter Tork or Michael Nesmith.) Curiously, what I consider to be their best song, "I Wonder What She's Doing Tonite" was passed on by the Monkees, so Boyce and Hart recorded it themselves. This track itself is worth the price of the CD. However, the collection also contains some unexpected gems, including "Out and About" and "I'm Digging You Digging Me" as well as their other well-known hit, "Alice Long (You're Still My Favorite Girlfriend)." You may not know their names, but if you're a fan of vintage television, from Get Smart and the Monkees to Hawaii Five-O and the Mod Squad, you know the sound. They helped develop and define it. And if you were lucky enough, as I was, to be a teenager in this era when rock and roll was fun, before it became angry and political, you'll enjoy this collection.Vollständige Rezension lesen
Fantastic memories thru music of a different era where things were much calmer. Beautiful tunes of simple songs without vulgar words. Fantastic!
