***MINIMAL SPOILERS*** French Director Jean Luc-Goddard has a "sleeper hit" here; takes two viewings to get the messages in this movie. A major plot-point is the meat-packing factory strike in 1968. The offices are obviously a designed set, and the interactions between the workers and management are believable, and well-choreographed. Yves Montand, stars as Jacques, who is married to an American Journalist Suzanne, played by American Activist Jane Fonda, has their marriage and work lives questioned for the audience. The Cinematography is outstanding, showing viewers what has not been shown before: that great tracking shot of the Supermarket activities. The symbolism Goddard uses throughout this movie fit the story lines perfectly. The Criterion series has a few Special Features worth watching once. The "Letters from Jane" is a classic Documentary that tells how France deciphered Jane Fonda's photo of talking with the Viet-Cong in Hanoi, in the late 1960's. That photo is probably the most discussed photo of any American Artist in the 1960's.Vollständige Rezension lesen
