Anytime you have a great story coupled with 3 great leading men makes for a great movie. Prior to Jurassic Park this what if story of cloning still thrills today. Gregory Peck is thoroughly entertaining in one of his few turns at playing a bad guy. And, here he plays one of history's most despicable bad guys, Joseph Mengele. Sir Laurence Olivier also plays against type in a homage to the celebrated Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal and received an Oscar nod for his efforts. Rounding out the top players is James Mason who can even make a Nazi General look suave. Although, all three are past their prime as leading men they show time has not dulled their abilities to captivate an audience. Based on the book from the imaginative writer Ira Levin (Rosemary's Baby, Stepford Wives, Deathtrap) who cleverly mixed fact and fiction to come up with one of the best what ifs. Rounding out the fine supporting cast is Denholm Eliot, Steve Guttenburg, Lili Palmer and Uta Hagan chews up the scenery as a revolting concentration camp matron. Jerry Goldsmith was also nominated for an Oscar for his wonderful music that often becomes like a character in the movie. If you've not yet seen Boys From Brazil you're in for a treat.Vollständige Rezension lesen
A memorable movie from the 70's. The plot Nazi Dr. Mengele, played by Gregory Peck, is hiding in South America and is being stalked by a young Nazi hunter. Dr. Mengele and the remnants of the Third Reich are trying to maintain the secrecy of Nazi plot hatched during the final years of WW2. Unfortunately they've drawn the attention of an experienced Nazi hunter in the U.S., Laurence Olivier. As the plot unfolds the concepts not as futuristic and fresh as they were 30 years ago but still more frightening than a T-Rex loose in L.A. If you haven't seen the movie yet you'll understand the reference after your first viewing. Unless you aren't a Crichton fan. The slang is dated and seems corny but adds to character of the film and it's time period. Overall a well acted film especially Laurence Olivier ( I like him better than Peck in this film). Well worth the price of the DVD+shipping!Vollständige Rezension lesen
Gregory Peck at his best.He convinced me that he was a Nazi. Laurence Olivier as great as when he was Zues in the original Clash of the Titans.Boy did they mess up the remake, reboot, waste of time, and $15.00,and insult to Mr.Olivier performance. But where reviewing The Boys from Brazil, not Clash of the Bad Ideas. TBFB has an awesome story, wonderful acting.A must see for all. Way ahead of its time.I hope no one ever tries to remake this piece of art.
The beginning I like a lot. I did not like the profanity(2 times). Even though the movie is historical somewhat, it's pretty much a fantasy. But I like it.
