Focus III - is one of two seminal works by the 1070's instrumental band Focus (the other being Moving Waves). The great driving rhythym section is lead by Pierre van der Linden and Bert Ruitier (on Drums and Bass) and you can feel the pounding beat throughout the album, breaking through in a couple of places to solo. On top of that is the brilliant guitarist Jan Akkerman, who I rate as one of the best ever. His Jazz influenced work throughout the album doesn't stay in simple 4/4 rock, but ranges through Jazz and blues influences, almost sounding as if it is crying at one stage. Finally the delights of Thijs van Leer on keyboards, flute and various voicals but not singing, rather using his voice as an instrument. I get lost in dreams listening to this album, as it has no lyrics to distract and lead you, rather you can go wherever the fancy takes you. Released in 1972, the album has the catchy singles "sylvia" on it, written by Van Leer about a girl he knew, and "house of the King" which I believe was used as a TV signature tune. Answers questions questions answers is a great jazz influenced piece, leading into the title track Focus III. This tracks weaves in and out of various themes before returning time and time again to the main one. For any serious music collector this album is a must, for any lover of instrumental music you need to have this, and for any guitarist, buy it and listen in awe!Vollständige Rezension lesen
