Grover Washington, a man who needs no introduction, produced some excellent soul infused Jazz sax in the 70's and into the 80's. My personal favourites are Soul Box one and Mister Magic, but it was this album, Winelight that was the 'big one'. Excellent playing, a terrific backing band Steve Gadd, Eric Gale, Ralph Macdonald all combined to produce a superb sounding masterpiece of 'cool' sound. Not forgetting of course Bill Withers contribution with 'Just the Two of Us', a vocal track that tops off an already excellent set. What more can I say that hasn't already been said? This version is in the DVD-Audio format. Sadly, this version is now very rare, but as physical media slowly disappears to be replaced by streaming, CD's, and Hires discs are appearing more frequently, and as their value drops (Digital media isn't really 'collectable') you might get one at a sensible price. The lack of DVD-Audio on the market is a real pity, as this format really does shine when done properly - as this disc is. The 2.0 version is excellent, well recorded and shines in all areas. The 5.1 has been well done too. It is short on the gimmicks that can put you off 5.1, and high on allowing you to access the hidden details that sometimes stereo doesn't highlight. In short, if you can, get it!Vollständige Rezension lesen

This DVD-Audio of Grover Washington's Winelight is awesome. In 5.1 surround sound, you feel like you're at a live performance with front row center seats. Can't recommend it enough.

Great surround. Excellent surround sound. Only issue is that it will not play in my car DVD player, which plays all other DVD audio disks. This disk does play in my home DVD player.

The LP in its day was good and the invention of the CD was even better but this music done in DVD AUDIO is Awesome(l haven't had the experience in SACD yet,2.1 and 4.0 can be dreadful sometimes leaving holes in the soundstage, hard to locate the sweetspot if possible),Mr. Magic is still doing his thing in Voo-Doo 5.1(6.1 in my system),a warm mellow breeze in the surround experience , a must have if you're a fan and have the equipment to decode the sound, all music should be done this way.
