Product Information

Red Faction: Guerrilla is a shooter that eschews its series predecessors' confined paths and first-person view in favor of a third-person perspective set in a vast open-world landscape. One thing the series hasn't changed, however, is its revolutionary tone. The original Red Faction found gamers rebelling against a corrupt Martian mining corporation, Red Faction II saw players back on Earth taking down a totalitarian regime, and Red Faction: Guerrilla finds gamers rising up against an Earth Defense Force (EDF) that has grown corrupt in its occupation of Mars.

Players assume the role of Alec Mason, a young man who, much like Red Faction's protagonist Parker, came to Mars to work as a miner, but soon found himself in the middle of a proletariat insurrection. As Mason, gamers can freely explore six zones of an expansive Martian landscape, ambushing EDF convoys, joining fellow revolutionaries, attacking military outposts, and exploring mines, industrial compounds, and thriving cities. Players can use an array of different weapons, from futuristic military fare like nano-rifles to improvised armaments like arc welders, and a variety of machines, such as armored personnel carriers, tanks, and mining excavators, can be hijacked and used against the enemy.

The "Geo-Mod 2.0" engine expands on the series' acclaimed emphasis on destructible environments, allowing gamers to systematically destroy any man-made object, from bridges, to huts, to towering skyscrapers. Red Faction: Guerrilla also puts its destructive engine on display in several different multiplayer game modes, including "M.A.Y.H.E.M.," "Fall Guy," and "Rampage."

  • Could have been good.

I purchased the original Red Faction many years ago for both the PS2 and the PC. It was one of my favorite games not for the story, or for the shooting, but because of the new Geomod engine. The concept behind this engine was that if you had a blocked door you could go around it, you could also destroy bridges and plunge your enemies into canyons if you were fast enough. Was it buggy? Yes, but it was something interesting and I thought gaming would get better for it. Fast forward to Red Faction Guerrilla and things have actually gotten worse. There is absolutely no destroyable terrain in this game. Buildings can be destroyed, vehicles can be destroyed, anything that's not part of the terrain itself can be destroyed. while this is fun to do, and very detailed with parts flying everywhere it ...

  • Great destruction, repetitve game play.

This game has good graphics. Any man-made object in the environment is destructible which is fun. It is an ok game. I wish whenever you destroyed a building the explosions were a bit more impressive. Seems to me the buildings just fall apart. (I have a 3.4ghz quad core CPU and gtx 280 graphics card so isn't powerful enough for good explosions) Also it seems you can't carry enough ammo for the weapons. I always run out of ammo whenever I'm in a firefight. The game play does get a bit repetitive too. It's an Ok game but not worth the retail price.

  • Red Faction Guerilla makes a darn good sequel

In this game I love being able to bash an enemies head in with a hammer demolish and destroy nearly everything in the landscape with a hammer, explosives or rockets. I like being able to take whatever vehicle you come across even the enemies weapon equiped vehicles. I do however find the game to be a bit on the repititious side. I also am not a big fan of the interuptions when I am headed to one spot across the map and I have to turn around to take out a convoy or intercept a courier although they do offer a little variety.

  • Not Buying This Game Would Be A Disservice.

Since THQ is no longer in the gaming community picture, and Volition, Inc has been bought by another company -- It looks unlikely that another Red Faction game, in the vein of Guerrilla, will be created. I already own this game on the 360, but my computer runs games more beautifully, so I figured I'd might as well buy it. Ultimately, this is a good game that was a sleeper hit. It is a shame that no one gave it much of a chance to shine. I love the thing, and you should give it a try. Buying good games on the cheap is great, so what are you waiting for?

  • Blowing Stuff Up

The in-game physics for buildings is pretty amazing...its always fun to take down a building no matter how repetitive the game gets. The driving physics on the other hand don't seem near as good, although none actually knows what it is like to drive on mars. The guns are cool, although they can be hard to use accurately without a bit of practice and luck. Good game overall.
