The Xbox Live Arcade has a good selection of games for a wide range of ages and interests, ideal for "Family Game Night". The games range from Geometry Attack, which is very, very much like the original Asteroids game ( way, way back in the days of Atari ;) ), though with enhanced graphics, to the classic " Bejeweled 2", all the way to "Wik", a role playing adventure game that features a tutorial and is easy enough for even young players to master, but still be entertaining to older folks. Also included is Texas Hold 'em Poker, which is rather basic in terms of graphics and game play, but oddly addictive none the less. There is very mild violence in "Wik", as the player spits grubs and acorns at their opponents, but certainly no blood and gore. The average Loony Tunes cartoon has more "cartoon violence", making it a great game for younglings. Definitely a "go-to" game when looking for something other than blood/gore and sports.Vollständige Rezension lesen
Here I will just name off the games that are on the XBLA Unplugged Vol.1 and say a brief thing about each one. Bejeweled 2 : A very simple puzzle game of matching jewels in 3's or more. It's really easy and addicting at first but then it becomes quite hard and bothersome. There are 4 modes in which you can play giving you more than just a linear go through of the game. My Rating: B- Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved : This is a game that celebrates old-school style arcade games. It's alot like Astroids but with a modern touch to it. The music is awesome and the bright colors going every which way iluminate your television screen. Especially in HD. As for the game itself, it's kind of tough. I had a pretty hard time trying to stay alive amidst all the chaotic things going on around the screen, but I'm sure a few more go throughs would make anyone more aware of it's crazy but simple gameplay. My Rating: B+ Wik: Fable of Souls : This game apparently has a storyline, but I chose not to pay any attention to it because it just doesn't make any sense to me. But the gameplay of the game is what makes sense here. You are this creature who can only jump to move and uses it's tongue to lick things up and spit them out or use it as a kind of grappling hook. The main goal of the game is to lick up these "grubs" and feed them to another creature on the bottom of the screen before he leaves the screen. It's kind of hard to explain but I was surprised how original and fun this game really is. My Rating: A Texas Hold Em' Poker : Really Don't need to say much here. It's just Texas Hold Em' Poker. You can play against the computer or against others on XBL. I did find playing on XBL was kind of slow having to wait on all the players to call and bet. But if you don't mind that, then this is a good one to play. My Rating: A- Outpost Kaloki X : I honestly did not get into this game. I played it once and the game seems too complecated to be fun. When i think of XBL arcade games, I think of fun, addicting, relaxing, and social games. This game makes me feel like I have to research things to figure out how to do anything in the game. Maybe I should try it again with a more open mind but sometimes a bad first impression of a game is enough to make me not want to play it again. But i guess all games aren't for everyone. My Rating C- Hardwood Backgammon : Before playing this game, I have never played Backgammon. I knew of it but never have I played. The game actually tells you how to play and it makes sense. So thanks to this game, I now know how to play. It's a very simple game, you can just sit back and relax and play against a computer or someone via XBL. My Rating: A- OVERALL : You get 6 games for the price of one (depending on how much you pay for this). These are by far are not the best XBLA games out there but either way it's a good bargain to get some pretty solid XBLA titles.Vollständige Rezension lesen
Even though the games are several years old I picked this up to use on Xbox Live to play Hold'em poker. Hold'em and Bejeweled are the only two that I play, but some of the others such as Geometry Wars will be a nice break from the norm or one of those late night fixes when things are slow and boring. I bought it used, but it was just like new. Even had the free month of Xbox Live coupon still unused. For the price I paid it was well worth the investment. For those considering this to play Hold'em poker, there is a fair size of players on XBox Live. Most are adults, but sometimes the immature ones show up. Games are pretty nice when you use a headset to chat with everyone at the table.
I bought this game for my girlfriend. I'm a semi-big gamer, she's not so much. The idea was to get her a game that didn't involve to much button coordination, or competition, and this compilation is great for that. With classic style games like Texas Hold 'Em Poker, and Bejeweled, anyone from young to old can enjoy this set for years to come. The only real downside for us is that some of the games are single-player only. I should've checked that first. So now we just take turns :)
Got the game off ebay for only 5 bucks. With six games included on one disc seems like a steal. Considering it is an arcade disc the games arent the best quality, but some are quite addicting. Wasnt sure what Outpost Kaloki was about when i first bought the game, but its really a fun outerspace tycoon game. The selection is good including poker and others, but dont see much use in playing backgammon... For the price you can get it on ebay for. The game is well worth it.
