This album was produced by Duran Duran's Andy Taylor, who is an 'Excellent' Lead Guitarist. This 11-song album contains some of the best non-popular rock I have ever heard. For example, track #7-Love Walked In; is probably the BEST ballad and song on the album. At least in my opinion. This track is not to be confused with Van Halen's-Love Walks In, matter-of-fact; this track does not even come close to sounding anything like that song. Still, track #7 was the first track I played for that reason. Don't Wait For Me was the second track I played. Am I glad I did. This title is the same name as Morris Day and The Time song in the '80's. I was curious again to see if there was ANY similarity. There was not. At this point, I realized...this is going to be a fantastic album. She's So Fine, Dirty Love, and Higher Ground offer some of the best non-traditional rock I have ever heard. This would be one awesome band to listen too before another great band opens up. Until My Dying Day features Andy Taylor himself, I also want to say that Andy appears on the final track...Distant Thunder and the first track...She's So Fine. However, I have been unable to confirm that. I do know that Andy Taylor co-wrote two of the three songs. Backstreet Symphony the title track along with...An Englishman On A Holiday, Girl's Going Out of Her Head, and Gimme Some Lovin' do not disappoint. If you are looking for something that sounds a little Duran Duranesque; This IS NOT the album for you. If you have an open mind and an appreciation for great musician's who know how to make great music...carry on. This is one album that should have been given a real chance at getting some extended airplay. Hope this review helps. Peace.Vollständige Rezension lesen
Thunder's debut album "Backstreet Symphony"(Geffen 1991)is a bluesy hard rock record that was produced by Duran Duran axeman, Andy Taylor. If you like Tesla with a little bit of Bad Company thrown in, you'll love this one. I'd like to say it's pretty standard fare for early 90's late 80's rock, but I like the songwriting and production, as well as the overall talent of the band to just throw them in with all the other bands of the era. Daniel Bowes vocals are extraordinary whether he's belting one out(Dirty Love)or reach deep down and blues the hell out of ya(Don't Wait For Me). All in all, it's one of my faves from this era, and I highly recommend it.
This is the debut disc from this band and it is nothing short of golden. Thunder was an early and undeserving victim of the Sludge (Grunge, whatever...) grind imposed upon us by Sony when they bought out MCI music company and fired all of the great bands of the '80's, an era now touted as the best for rock, hard rock, old school metal and just guitar virtuosity in general. Thunder enjoyed continued success in Europe and other, more enlightened markets, giving light to the fact that Sony should stick to video games and little electronic gizmos.
Fantastic music, sorry it took so long to discover these guys!!
