Coming after popular PSP and PS2 follow-ups to the PlayStation original, Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume is the third original game in Square's Norse mythology-inspired RPG series, and the first for Nintendo DS. Players control a small group of characters, each with different battle abilities, in a style of turn-based combat with an action-oriented component and an emphasis on teamwork. When fighting an enemy, each character in range is assigned a button; pressing the button causes that character to attack. The number of attacks each character can make in a round is limited, but devastating "over attack" combos are unleashed when characters are in formation and the right moves are strung together in the right order. The game's story follows an angry young soldier named Wylfred, whose father was a great and valiant warrior who was taken to Valhalla by the Valkyrie Lenneth. Bearing deep resentment from his destitute and fatherless childhood, Wylfred strives to also become a warrior worthy of Lenneth's attention, such that he may take revenge against her for the years of pain she has caused him. Along with a small group of trusted friends and worthy allies, Wylfred ventures forth to seek fame and fortune in a land full or strife and in desperate need of a hero.

A must buy if you liked the first Valkyrie! Music, Fighting, Story, Amazing
This game is definitely fun. What I really enjoyed about it are the decisions you have to make. Each new character you receive at some point will have to be sacrificed and you have to decide when. It's a real heart jerker and I have never made more morally difficult decisions in a game before. The Fighting style is quite unique. If you have played other Valkyrie games, like the original one, it maintains that idea where each person is assigned a button and you have to hit it at the right time in order to get the most damage on a enemy. But they added in a new twist to it. Basically making it a tactics game. You have to move your characters around the field like chess pieces and if they are in the right area, they will join in a fight with their allies. There is a bit lacking on how many ... There is a bit lacking on how many times you can actually fight though. You cant really go out and fight random fights, so no level grinding is allowed. You got to make good with what you get. Which can be frustrating at times, but it makes the game move along quicker. After a while, you might find yourself keeping your group close to each other, and constantly Overkilling your enemies for the shear purpose of collecting needed items.

Amazing price for a sealed new game that combines the best aspects of STRPG and the mythos of Valkyrie Profile. Refreshing to have darker, mature themes in a STRPG.
