Vectis S1 BUY ONE.! Money well spent.
I am a Minolta fanatic, ie 35mm slrs, but saw results from a friend's Vectis S1 and decided to buy the Vectis S1. I bought an S1 with one lens for about1/20th of its price when new. Then saw another S1, with 2 other Vectis lenses and bought it from ebay for a pittance. Both cameras were in mint- condition, as were the lenses. Two different sellers were involved but their descriptions were accurate. The camera is handy for carrying about(in a pocket);is easy to load; and is simple to use. For one or two of the functions an owner's manual would be nessary; but those too can be found on ebay. Photo results are impressive to say that the negative size is smaller than 35mm. Myself impressed ? I would definitely say, YES. I have already used 5-6 films in the cameras. It is a quality ... Used is good
Oldy but gives good results. I had a large stock of APS so needed a good priced reliable camera. This ticked all the boxes.

Vectis S-1 ; a great camera for the amateur photographer.
I have had one of these cameras since September 1999, along with a 25-150mm zoom lens. It was a special offer in Dixons, at that time. I later purchased a Vectis F-1 flash unit, which allowed for greater flash distance. On the whole I am very pleased with the results, especially in daylight on a sunny day, although it takes good pictures on cloudy days too!.It doesn't always take good pictures with flash, especially if one uses ISO 400 film (quite o lot of 'noise' in parts of the photo)- so I only bought ISO 200 or ISO 100 film from that point on. The quality of the 'flash' pictures then improved quite a lot. About three and a half years later, I purchased a Vectis 'bundle' on eBay because it included a 22-80 mm lens (wide angle) and a 80-240mm lens (longer focal length for telephoto). In ... In fact I took both lenses on holiday, and used the 22-80mm lens mostly - for landscapes etc. etc. because I could get more of the vista in the picture. Then,subsequently I bought this camera (my third Vectis S-1), because I do not like to keep on changing lenses on the one camera, so now I can have THREE different lenses on THREE seperate cameras. I realise that it's more to carry around, but generally, by planning ahead, you need only take TWO cameras around with you. The advantages are obvious - the only dis-advantage is the extra stuff to carry around. Incidentally, because these cameras have "predictive auto focus", I have taken many good pictures through the window of a bus, and also of moving objects - for these type of 'shots' I use the "sports" mode. Also,for non-daylight 'shots', the Shutter Sync Speed, which is 1/125 of a second, is much, much, faster than a lot of the digital cameras (which cost much more); which means one can get sharper pictures of moving people etc. when using the flash (Vectis F-1).I later bought a more powerful flash (Minolta program 2500 D) which gives even better results. There are times when I use my, very good, Finepix S9500 digital camera - it just depends on the circumstances and conditions at the time. Incidentally, just before buying the first camera, it was the best buy in Which? magazine and got very high percentage marks. All in all, a great camera, which nearly always takes excellent pictures, most of the time. It is also very easy to understand the various 'modes' etc, and the Instruction Booklet is concise and first rate. One drawback is that one can't see the finished photo, until the film is processed (at a later date)- but hey!, what was it like BEFORE digital came along!

Vectis APS system
The Minolta Vectis S-1 APS SLR is a lovely little camera with a small , but excellent range of Vectis specific lenses . If you fancy a film option to your digital set up , compact and straight forward to use but with a FULL list of features ... this is a long way from a toy ... lenses from 17mm to 400mm are available including the 50mm f3.5 macro lens , the superb 80-240mm APO zoom and the amazing 400mm AF mirror lens , splash proof and sturdy , this is a great system ... if digital hadn`t come along when it did , this system would have been a lot more popular . Don`t buy from ebay unless the seller states it`s tested and make sure they tell you the lenses are clear , just because it`s a recent system , the optics , if badly stored , will choke up with fungus the same as any other system ... The Minolta Vectis S-1 APS SLR is a lovely little camera with a small , but excellent range of Vectis specific lenses . I enjoy collecting interesting cameras(at the right price)and having read articles about the Vectis S1,I looked for one on E Bay.The camera has a fast speed of 2000th sec and can be used in the rain with a near waterproof body.The shape of the camera is interestingly different from other film SLR cameras.The average price for a good one is about £70,but I found a body for sale at £14.95 or near offer,and I got it for £8.Yes that cheap.I already had a lens from another purchase and can say that I got a quality camera for £18 plus postage.Thats my kind of buy!I enjoy collecting interesting cameras(at the right price)and having read articles about the Vectis S1,I looked for one on E Bay.The camera has a fast speed of 2000th sec and can be used in the rain with a near waterproof body.The shape of the camera is interestingly different from other film SLR cameras.The average price for a good one is about £70,but I found a body for sale at £14.95 or near offer,and I got it for £8.Yes that cheap.I already had a lens from another purchase and can say that I got a quality camera for £18 plus postage.Thats my kind of buy!
