The makerbot Mini is dedicated to large audience; they ensured printing success then restricted some stuff: you can't tune all the parameters that you would like. Can't remove raft step: yes you are sure your object won't warp or detach from the bedplate during print, but then the contact surface won't be smooth. You can't go under 200um precision though it would be possible with this harware (same physical extruder than the other pro devices), this is a software limitation. And with the regular extruder, a lot of jam occur, have to load again the filament then resume the printing... but I'm quite happy for now. Just have to figure out how I can achieve to print with flexible filament, some brand work quite fine and other don't at all, perhaps it will be better with the upgraded extruder SmartExtruder Plus.Vollständige Rezension lesen

I have to admit that this was first and foremost an impulse buy because I couldn't resist the low $300 price point with all the extras. I was very skeptical at first because in the week that I waited for this printer all I read were bad reviews on 3D printing in general. First, it took about 2-hours to set this up because I didn't know that is was not compatible with OSX Yosemite even though I downloaded the latest software. Second, when I tried with Windows 7, it took about 3 re-installs to get Windows to recognize the proper USB device drivers for this thing. It was very frustrating and believe me, buyers remorse was setting in quickly. Once I finally figured it out and started printing the print quality was not bad. The setup was straight-forward when following the setup guide. It is what it is and says what it does.... it's a 3D printer. I printed the "Space Dog" for my first print and it wasn't bad. Second I printed a toothpaste tube extruder and the print quality was so good that I printed a second one. So far, for the price, two thumbs!Vollständige Rezension lesen

The MAKERBOTS are good machines. However, the printing heads that come with them are crap. You have to order the newer head at the same time you buy one of these, otherwise you'll have a nice desktop MAKERBOT. The printer head that comes with them clog almost immediately and are next to impossible to get working after they clog. The newer printer heads work fine and are easy to clean if they clog... which is much less.

The seller Scott is great, delivers good quality products and is very honest. He contacted me after I received the printer to let me know that there was a cheaper option for shipping and he was going to issue a refund. The printer was brand new and works great.

After reading other reviews I finally decided to go with makerbot. I had seen several of these printers in use at a local museum, where they had been reproducing one the Chinese imperial palaces. The detail was amazing. You could still see the print layers but after they had finished and painted each piece everything looked perfect. The makerbot mini has a few quirks and takes a few minutes to set up, but you once you get it going you'll be printing every chance you get. I've found that while print times can vary from an hour to ten hours it does give you the ability to print multiple parts at one time. I was most impressed with a ball joint doll print that had internal parts that allowed movement of the hand and wrist without any assembly. Very impressive, I hope at some point they will make upgrades for the mini to allow use of other materials than just PLA and I think the purchase of a 3d printing pen would allow more options for adding multiple colors and details to your single color print.Vollständige Rezension lesen
