I first heard the Allman Brothers in 1970... They were one of the acts appearing at the Fillmore East Show in New York.. To say they stood out from the other entertainers would be an understatement.. They were spectacular. I was deeply affected when Duane died. Being a motorcyclist myself, it had a bearing on how I rode in the future. When Gregg and the group decided to continue performing despite missing Duane's guitar work, that even Clapton was captivated by, was great news for all of the ABB fans. I have collected eleven albums of the ABB and also Gregg's solo work over the years...and Laid Back is one of my favs. 'Please Call Home' and 'Multi-Colored Lady' will impress any dedicated blues fan. If you don't have this album, you are definitely missing one of the key ingredients of the Allman experience. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of 'Southern Blood', the last of Gregg's albums,..but as long as I have some kind of player at my disposal, the Allmans will be blasting from my residence.. God Bless Gregg... R I P !!Vollständige Rezension lesen

Gregg Allman was an integral part of the Allman Brother's Band as a songwriter as well as a musician. He filled the roll as keyboard/Piano player while his brother Dwayne dazzled the world with bluesy riffs and clearly some of the best slide guitar ever played and recorded. Laid Back was Gregg's first chance to step out and show that he was also a gifted guitar player. His rendition of Midnight Rider in my opinion just blew away the much faster radio version that the Allman Brothers recorded earlier. Gregg's Multi- colored Lady, Queen of Hearts, Please Call Home, Don't Mess up a Good Thing and Will The Circle Be Unbroken spoke to many of us and forever left no doubt that Gregg Allman could stand on his own and do it in extraordinary fashion.
This was such a change for Greg Allman, compared to the music he did with the Allman Brothers Band. The title says it all, "Laid Back". Some beautiful songs by Allman (Midnight Rider), Jackson Brown (These Days), as well as the traditional classic "Will The Circle Be Unbroken", which was sung at his brother Duane's funeral by the ABB. Some of Capricorn's finest musicians of this time period (Boyer/Talton, Chuck Leavell, etc.,)put their trademark sounds onto this album. It is truly a "have to listen to it from front to back" type of album to get the full range of the types of songs on here. Some of these songs probably reveal things that were probably going on or had gone on before in Greg's life, which was not without it's share of trials and tribulations. It was refreshing to hear this collection of songs again after so many years and I think you would enjoying Greg Allman in yet another phase of his career.Vollständige Rezension lesen
This Lp has some of Gregg Allman's best work, In my humble opinion. The track "Queen of Hearts" is one of my all time favorites. I purchased this CD, Even though I prefer analog Vinyl Records, as opposed to digital CD, for that warmer sound quality. Being a musian the CD format makes it easer to reproduce the song over and over while playing or singing it.
Had it on cassette years ago off the bargain rack. What a jewel! The whole album!!
