This movie is absolutely terrifying, thanks to Robert DiNiro's outstanding performance as serial rapist Max Cady. When Cady is released from prison, he begins stalking Sam (public defender) and his family. DiNiro's performance as tattooed, cackling Cady is virtually unforgettable. Nick Nolte and Jessica Lange give good performances as the parents of daughter Danielle, played by Juliette Lewis. The events that unfold surrounding Cady's stalking of Danielle are horrifying to watch and think about. Scorsese does an excellent job of directing this movie, as his choice of camera angles and decisions about what to allude to (rather than throw in your face) are tormenting to the viewer! There are some references to the original flick here, and Scorsese experiments with some film noir techniques. At times, the references seem too technical and overdone, but once the viewer realizes that it is all done on purpose, it all comes together. Don't watch this one alone; it is terrifying!Vollständige Rezension lesen
Although this movie boasts several new twists, blood, and a different finale, it still does not measure up to the 1962 original. Mick Nolte underplays his role and at times Robert DeNiro overplays his. The only balance in this film is Jessica Lange who gives her usual excellent performance. Stick with the original. Robert Mitchum makes a much more sinister Max Cady sans tatoos than DeNiro. Watch this one for Lange.
Sam Bowden is a womanizing lawyer who has cheated on his burnt out, bitter wife Leigh Bowden. Sam, Leigh, and their 15 year old daughter Danielle have moved to a backwater Florida town for a new start, but Sam is already showing signs of fooling around with his clerk, 16 year old Lori Davis. Meanwhile, Leigh broods at home, venting her bitterness on Danielle. But Sam's unfaithfulness becomes the least of Leigh's worries. Years ago, as a public defender, Sam had a client named Max Cady, who was accused of brutalizing a teenage girl. Sam put up a lousy defense for Max after discovering that Max was guilty of brutalizing the girl. Now, 14 years later, Cady has been released from prison and he's hungry for revenge on Sam, having spent his sentence making himself well-read in philosophy and literature. Cady's plan is to destroy Sam's career and family. This brutal, violent and suspenseful thriller combines a scorching performance by Robert De Niro. The cameo appearances by Robert Mithcum and Gregory Peck is brilliant. The fact that they played such opposite roles in the original movie was an interesting twist. If you like horror movies and thrillers, you will most likely enjoy this. This movie is definitely a keeper.Vollständige Rezension lesen
It was a good dvd, yet not as scarier as I like to watch. If you like horrors would recommend.
